Luke's Story

This super-sized cattle dog is Luke. He is big and bold and has a cattle dog
temperament—loving to his best friends, warry of others. This fellow looks
imposing (and is) but he is a giant marshmallow underneath. He likes belly rubs,
butt scratches, and chase games. When he is outside, Luke is quick to play-bow to invite you to join him in a game. Since he is a cattle dog, he will choose the game.

Luke has excellent house manners and knows basic commands. He automatically
offers a sit and a paw shake at mealtime. He is about 5 years old, neutered, fully
vaccinated and on flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

When you pick up his collar, harness and leash, Luke lets you know he is excited
and happy to go with you. He loves car rides and walks. His leash manners are a
bit rough, and his foster home is working on that. Luke has a couple of basic
obedience courses under his belt and likes to train and learn new things.

He loves his people and likes to sit next to you on the couch in the evening (or on
your lap if you allow), likes to sit on the floor next to your feet (or on them) as you
work on your laptop. His favorite thing is to follow you everywhere, and we do
mean everywhere.

Luke does not always like to meet new people but warms up quickly with a few
treats and some patience. He gets along well with the female dog in his foster
home. He tolerates the unneutered male dog in his foster home as well. We do
not know how he would tolerate cats.

The best home for Luke will have a fenced yard—but it does not have to be a big
one. An all-adult home is best for him; he shows a preference for women. With
continuing positive reinforcement training, Luke will learn that new people are
good to meet. But he is always going to be a bit guardy—alerting you to surprise
visitors and delivery vans. He will always be your best friend and your loyal
champion.

Adoption preference will be given to families and individuals with experience with
cattle dogs and heelers. Luke is located in Vancouver, WA.

If you are interested in adopting Luke, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We only schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks.
