Luke has been with us long enough that we’ve gotten to know the real Luke, and this smart, goofy boy has come a LONG way since he first arrived.<br/><br/>**Estimated DOB: 06/17/2020**<br/><br/>Luke originally came to IPR underweight and showing signs of a pretty rough past. Since then, he’s filled out, settled into foster life, and learned an impressive list of skills. This boy knows **sit, down, come, paw, touch, spin, back up, leave it, crate, relax, potty/outside** and more. He is fully house trained, crate trained, food motivated, and incredibly smart. Give Luke some structure and something fish flavored and you’ve definitely got his attention. <br/><br/>He also LOVES to run and is ridiculously athletic. Luke is FAST and has an almost six-foot vertical jump, so his future family will need to take secure handling and containment seriously.<br/><br/>As Luke has settled in, we’ve also learned more about what makes him comfortable and what kind of home will help him succeed.<br/><br/>Luke bonds with his people, but he does not trust unfamiliar people easily. New people require time, patience, consistency, and proper introductions before Luke is comfortable having them in his circle. Because of this, he is looking for a quiet, **adult-only home with minimal visitor traffic** and someone experienced with behavioral dogs.<br/><br/>Luke does have some food resource guarding that his foster successfully manages with structure, and he takes behavioral medication that he will need to remain on long-term. He can also be sensitive to loud noises, especially if startled awake, and he would personally vote to abolish nail trims altogether.<br/><br/>He is selective with other dogs, and his compatibility with cats is unknown.<br/><br/>Luke isn’t a dog who needs a huge social life. He doesn’t want to meet every neighbor, attend every party, or have a revolving door of visitors. He wants a smaller world with people he trusts, a predictable routine, room to run, and someone who understands that earning his trust is part of loving him.<br/><br/>Underneath all of that is still the goofy, energetic, incredibly smart boy we met years ago. We simply understand him better now.<br/><br/>Luke isn’t going to be the right dog for every home, but he doesn’t need every home.
