Luke's Story

Meet Luke
Age: 5 years
Neutered Male
Tulsa Foster Home

Luke is a playful, intelligent German Shepherd mix with a huge personality and an even bigger love for interaction, training, and activity.

Around 5 years old and 72 lbs, Luke thrives when he has structure, engagement, and an outlet for both his brain and energy. He loves walks, fetch, tug, hide-and-seek games, learning new things, and spending time with his people. He especially enjoys showing off the long list of commands and tricks he knows - and earning treats while doing it.

Luke completed a board and train through JPK9 Oklahoma after arriving with severe redirection behaviors and has made tremendous progress. He has developed a much stronger understanding that working with his handler is rewarding and fun, and he continues to flourish with consistency and structure.

He is highly food motivated, crate trained, and knows commands including sit, down, place, come, touch, spin, shake, wait, "with me," and more. His adopters will also have access to ongoing weekly JPK9 group classes to help continue his progress and maintain his training.

Luke does have behavioral and management needs that require an experienced home. He struggles with dog reactivity, resource guarding, overexcitement, and a high prey drive. He is not recommended for homes with cats, small dogs, or small animals. He also has a sensitive stomach and history of chewing/eating inappropriate objects, so management and supervision remain important.

Despite his challenges, Luke is affectionate, engaging, incredibly smart, and deeply enjoys being involved with his people. He would thrive with someone who enjoys training, structured activity, and building a strong working relationship with their dog.

Luke is looking for an experienced adopter who understands that progress is ongoing - and that dogs like him are worth the effort.

Apply to adopt Luke:
https://oklahomagsr.org/adopt
