Ludo's Story

"Meet Ludo — the underbite legend in the making.

Named after the big, gentle, scaredy-cat monster from Labyrinth (with a massive underbite), Ludo arrived just as scared and unsure. His first time out of the kennel, he pancaked onto the ground so hard he practically fused with the earth.

But wow has this kid come far.

Ludo now follows me everywhere with a curious prance, sneaks cautious kisses, and will even settle next to me on the couch with his head on my leg — something I swore would never happen on day one. He wants to love humans so badly; he’s just still convinced sudden arm movements are assassination attempts.

He gets most of his confidence from other dogs and absolutely adores them. He likes older kids too (hasn’t met younger ones yet) and is curious about every new thing — sometimes too curious. He’s an Olympic-level counter surfer, a shoe, pillow and christmas gift chewer (with a harmless underbite nip — his bottom teeth are for decoration only), and deeply suspicious of his own reflection. Also: certain men on TV.

He LOVES snow (Texas lied to him) and after a few days of refusing the couch, he now considers it his throne. TV and mirrors still confuse him — but in his defense, his underbite is jarring.

Potty training has been shockingly great, especially for a dog who once peed from fear. Walks started as full pancake mode, but now his tail wags and he tries very hard… even if he wraps the leash around every plant in a 10-foot radius. The kennel is tolerated only if he’s emotionally okay with the decision; if not, he produces the saddest, most wounded howls ever recorded.

Ludo — Luey — Ludifer — is one of the best glow-ups I’ve seen. From terrified pancake to playful, goofy, wannabe-snuggler. He’s sweet, silly, curious, gentle, and so ready for someone patient who will let him bloom at his own pace. His story deserves a warm, safe forever home with a playful dog friend."

Ludo is being fostered in Longmont, Colorado.

*We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.*

You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/ludo/.

You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.
