Lucy's Story

Meet Lucy, a sweet three-year-old Shepherd/possibly retriever mix with a gentle soul figuring out the world. Lucy arrived at the Lancaster shelter with her three brothers, but was separated from them right away, likely making an already scary experience even more frightening for her. She’s shy and timid at first, so she’ll need a little patience while she settles in, but underneath that timidness is a truly tender, loving girl. The fastest way to her heart is with treats — she takes them so gently and a little snack goes a long way toward earning her trust.

Lucy is a social butterfly with her fellow canines. She’s great with other dogs and genuinely finds comfort and confidence in their company, so a home with a resident dog (or frequent doggy company) could help her come out of her shell. We also think she’d likely do well with puppies. She hasn’t been around cats, but she shows no signs of a prey drive, so a slow, careful introduction could go well. Given her shy nature, we’d recommend a home with older kids only, so she has the space and calm she needs to adjust at her own pace.

What Lucy needs most is a quiet home and a safe space to decompress and grow comfortable in her new life. With time, patience, and plenty of gentle treats, we know she’ll blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready to find her forever home!
