Lucien's Story

Lucien has been an absolute delight in his foster home and is ready to win over his future family. He’s done wonderfully with our resident dog, happily switching between cozy snuggle sessions and enthusiastic tug-of-war matches with his sister. He’s also met a few canine friends and plays nicely with them during yard time.

Lucien currently lives with foster kitty sisters as well. While he’s still polishing his manners around them, he does well overall. When he gets extra excited, he may attempt a playful chase (because… cats), but for the most part he peacefully coexists with them.

He’s potty trained with only minimal accidents and is a total crate pro. He goes in willingly and seems to enjoy curling up in there to sleep at night. On leash, Lucien is doing pretty well! He does have a bit of a zig-zag and pull when excitement levels rise, but he’s actively working on his leash skills and gaining confidence every day. He loves his morning neighborhood walks and afternoon park strolls… and has proudly accepted his role as the #1 newest recruit on the local Squirrel Patrol.

Lucien is very food-motivated and takes his job as “kitchen sous chef” extremely seriously. While he’s been known to test his vertical skills in hopes of counter-surfing, we’re working on impulse control and keeping tempting snacks out of reach. He’s a big fan of enrichment activities like snuffle mats, lick mats, and lick balls, which help keep his clever brain busy.

At his core, Lucien is a smart, affectionate, and wonderfully silly boy with so much love to give. He adores cuddling on the couch, playing with his toys, and simply being near his people. Once he finds a person or family he can fully trust, he’s going to be an incredibly loyal and loving companion.

Lucien loves the outdoors (especially the snow!) and would thrive in an active home, possibly with another dog, and a family willing to continue his training and help him fine-tune a few remaining skills. In return, you’ll get a devoted best friend who’s equal parts snuggle buddy, adventure partner, and comic relief.
If you’re interested in adopting Lucien, apply online at www.uppupandaway.org. Meet and greets only happen once approved as an adopter. If you’re already an approved adopter or foster, feel free to DM your interest.

Up Pup and Away's Adoption Policy
How long will it take to process my application? We are a small rescue group who is ran by volunteers. Please allow us at least 3 business days to process your application and we will get back to you as soon as possible! Please note that we are not a first come first serve rescue. No meet and greets will be scheduled until you have gone through the adoption application & have been approved. Why is the adoption fee so expensive? Our rescues come from all over the globe, and their final destinations are here in Colorado. Our rescue runs solely on donations and adoption fees to continue to help as many dogs as we are able. Because our dogs do come from all different backgrounds (young, old, domestic transfers, international transfers, etc….), we must ensure they are healthy prior to adoption and also spayed/neutered (if of age*) to break the cycle of unwanted litters and pet overpopulation. The average spay/neuter cost here in the Denver area is between $250-$450 just in itself! Together, we can stop the pet overpopulation. I applied to adopt, now what? Please note that filling out an application does NOT mean you have been approved for adoption. We will review the applications and if we feel you are a good fit for the dog you are interested in, we will move forward with the adoption process. If we feel you are a great fit for an adopter, but just not for that specific dog, we will keep your application on file for future rescue pups needing homes. We will check your references, and once we feel you would make a great fit, we will schedule a phone screening. If approved to move forward, we will schedule a home check/meet and greet. Please note that just because you would have a meet and greet, you are NOT approved for adopting that dog. We have a strict policy for which dog ends up being adopted by which family. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue. Meaning, if you are the very first person to apply, this does not mean you are a match. Our mission is to find each of our dogs their perfect home & we request you respect that.
