Lucien's Story

Hi! I’m Lucien —I’m a golden retriever pup turning ONE at the end of this month, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I adore people. Like, seriously. If you’re around, I want to be near you, wagging my tail and ready for the next adventure.

I’m looking for a special kind of home — not one that wants to “fix” me, but one that will accept me just as I am. See, I have something called hydrocephalus, which basically means I have extra fluid in my brain. A neurologist confirmed it, and while I’m still the happy, energetic pup you’d expect from a golden, I do have some quirks that come with it.

Here’s what that looks like for me:

I spin in circles, mostly to the right — especially when I get excited! And let me tell you, I can get going fast.
I sometimes get head tremors, but they pass.
I’m still not potty trained, and that may continue to be part of my life.
I get a little jumpy and mouthy, but hey, I’m still a growing pup learning about the world!
Despite all of this, I have so much joy and curiosity. I love going out on walks and exploring new places. Meeting other dogs? Easy peasy — I’ve met several and done really well. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I just want to be loved, played with, and given the chance to live a full and happy life, even if it looks a little different than the average dogs.

I’m not looking for perfection — I’m looking for understanding. Someone who can meet me where I’m at, help guide me gently, and let me be the silly, affectionate, one-of-a-kind guy that I am. I promise, if you open your heart to me, I’ll fill your days with love, laughter, and golden retriever goofiness.

So… want to be my person?

An adopter applies on our website. The application is sent to our application specialist who assigns a volunteer to call vet or personal references. After the reference check, a home visit volunteer will set up a time to visit the home or do a virtual tour of the home to make sure it is appropriate for a dog. Once they complete their visit the report is sent to our adoption team for approval and the potential adopter is then contacted or can contact us to inquire about dogs.
