Lucie's Story
Lucie lives in one mood only: happy. She bounced through surgeries and stitches with the same enthusiasm most dogs reserve for snack time. Even when she was supposed to rest, she preferred hopping to the door to greet anyone brave enough to enter her kingdom.
Lucie is an approximately 10-year-old Chihuahua mix, around 17 lbs of pure sunshine. At home she also answers to her nickname Lulu, which she believes stands for “Living Legend,” but we can’t confirm that with her.
Lucie has had a fair bit of veterinary care since she came into rescue. She will be going to her forever family in tip top shape! Lucie had some lumps along her mammary chain when she arrived and they were removed and all were found to be benign cystic structures. She recovered beautifully from the surgery. Lucie also had a dental at the same time.
Not long after Lucie had her recheck and full recovery, her foster Mom noticed a swelling under her chin. Further diagnostics were needed, and it was found that Lucie had a salivary mucocele. Lucie underwent successful surgery for this and at her recent recheck she was given the all clear to go up for adoption. Along with these more unusual veterinary procedures, Lucie had all of her usual vetting and is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and her pre op blood work showed no concerns. All she needs now is her forever family
She has two major passions: people (all humans are instant best friends) and food (she will absolutely try to convince you she hasn’t eaten in 14 years). If you offer her a human who also offers her food… that’s her idea of peak life.
Her joy is contagious. She brings therapy-dog vibes without ever having taken the class.
Walks are one of her favourite daily missions. Lucie explores the world nose-first, inspecting every single smell like a tiny four-legged detective. Her bathroom routine is also uniquely Lucie: she sprinkles her #1s everywhere with enthusiasm and will take 5–10 minutes to locate the perfect spot for #2, rejecting multiple locations until she finds the one.
She has met a cat and reacted with complete indifference, which most cats consider a compliment. She has lived with other small dogs; Lucie can be a bit of a queen bee, so a more submissive dog makes the best housemate. She has also greeted larger dogs politely and confidently.
Lucie can thrive in either a house or a condo. What matters most is having frequent bathroom breaks to support her outdoor “creative process.”
She has met toddlers and older kids and enjoys them all—because to her, they’re just smaller humans to love. Supervision around little ones is always important.
Lucie has conquered every human she has met. Her foster family and their friends adore her and will miss her dearly. They hope her future family will share updates from time to time, because Lulu has an entire fan club rooting for her.
For more information, you may contact Karinne (foster parent) at karinnesaraiva@gmail.com
To fill out an adoption application for Lucie, please visit our website: https://savemedogrescue.ca/application-to-adopt/

**Adoptions within the province of Ontario only
