Lucie's Story

Lucy (formerly Tuxie) is a gentle, quiet sweetheart who is ready for the forever home she deserves.

Lucy is a 3-year-old, 62-pound spayed girl who came to the shelter after her family was evicted. She spent 17 days on the urgent list at Downey Animal Care Center, with no one coming for her. Thankfully, she is now safe in foster—and she has blossomed into an incredibly sweet and easy companion.

Lucy is one of the quietest dogs youll meet. She loves going for walks, lounging in the sunshine, and curling up next to her people for belly rubs. She is affectionate without being demanding and is perfectly happy to settle down and relax.

She is house-trained and crate-trained, and she has shown wonderful house manners. She doesnt chew on things or get into trouble, and she is comfortable being left alone to relax in her crate. At night, she has been trusted to have free roam of the house and happily settles down beside her foster family until morning.

Lucy is playful but a little shy, especially in new situations. She walks nicely on leash, although she may pull a bit when she gets excited. One of the cutest things about her is that when another dog approaches on a walk, she will sit when asked and calmly wait for the dog to pass.

She lived previously with children ages 8-17 and a cat, and her foster family has seen no aggression toward people or around her food. She is also very gentle about being handled. She can be a little picky about treats and hasnt shown much interest in toys yet—she seems much more interested in being near her people.

Lucy has come such a long way, and her foster family has completely fallen in love with her. She is the kind of dog who quietly works her way into your heart—and suddenly you cant imagine your home without her.

She deserves a family who will give her the love, patience, and security she has been missing. If youre looking for a sweet, mellow companion who will happily go for a walk, soak up some sunshine, and then curl up beside you, Lucy may be your girl.
