Luchito's Story

Meet Luchito - the long, low, turbo-powered adventure buddy you didn't know you needed.

Originating from the streets of Mexico and arriving in Oregon, Luchito is one of 17 lucky dogs who made the journey north thanks to our wonderful rescue partners in Ciudad Constitucion, just outside of Cabo in Baja California Sur. He's more than ready to start the next chapter of his life - preferably somewhere with snacks, adventures, and humans who appreciate a dog with... let's call it big personality energy.

First, the good news:

Luchito is ridiculously handsome. We're talking about a striking blue eye, an athletic little "low rider" build, a chiseled face, and a smile that could sell toothpaste commercials. Everywhere he goes people say, "Wow, what kind of dog is that?" The other good news:
This boy has enough energy to light up the Christmas tree at Madison Square Garden. Seriously. If enthusiasm were electricity, we'd never have another power outage. Luchito greets the world the only way he knows how - by running, spinning, bouncing, zooming, and occasionally launching himself into the air like a tiny rocket. He's basically the Energizer Bunny disguised as a long-and-low Mexican street dog. Now for the honest part. Our boy didn't exactly grow up with a rulebook. Boundaries? Never heard of them. "No"? Sounds fake. Because of that, Luchito will do best with a confident, experienced dog person who can give him the structure, calm leadership, and guidance he never had early in life. Someone patient, active, and steady who can help him learn that the world is not, in fact, a 24-hour parkour course. He's not aggressive with other dogs, but he does tend to meet them like a kid who drank three energy drinks - going from 0 to 60 in about two seconds with enthusiastic barks and invitations to party. Some dogs love it... others need a minute. Cats, however? In Luchito's mind, cats are tiny mysterious creatures that clearly exist for barking at and chasing, so a cat-free home is definitely the best plan. What Luchito really needs is someone who can help him discover the magic of calm confidence, routine, and structure. With the right guidance, we believe this goofy, lovable, larger-than-life boy will absolutely blossom into an incredible companion. Because underneath all that turbo energy is a sweet, joyful dog who just wants to experience the world with his person. So here's the question: Do you have the patience, leadership, and sense of humor it takes to help Luchito become the best version of himself? If so, you might just end up with the most entertaining, adventurous, and loyal sidekick around. Luchito is currently waiting for a loving foster or adopter to scoop him up so he can finally start learning what home life is all about. And we can't wait to see what this wonderful boy blossoms into once he has the structure and love he deserves.

Think you might be his hero?

Submit an adoption application through our website today for a meet and greet with this personality-filled little fellow.

PupFax: Luchito
Adoption Status: Available for Immediate Adoption
Medical Status: Cleared
Location: Bend/Central Oregon
Rescue Intake Type: Rescue partner/international

At-a-Glance Stats -

Age: 2 years (approximate)

Breed: Mixed breed

Size: Medium

Weight: 33 pounds (Approx. last weigh-in)

Sex: Male

Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Vaccinations: Up to date (core vaccinations)

Microchipped: Yes

Personality & Temperament: Friendly, Exuberant, Cats Strongly Dislike me, and Some Dogs Find Me Too Much To Deal With

Energy level: High

Home & Lifestyle Fit - Active, Experienced

People: Good

Dogs: Depends

Cats: No Way Jose

Activity Level: Higher energy, playful

Ideal Home: Active, Patient, Understanding, Very Calm

Training & Manners - What's that?

House/Potty Trained: Yes!

Crate Trained: He's Kenneled all day

Leash Skills: Needs work

Commands Known: Unknown at this time

Food/Treat Motivation: Yes please!

Health Notes -

Overall Health: Good

Known Medical Needs: Sustained injury to his rear left foot from being hit by a car in Mexico, but it's healed completely. It can limit his total distance traveled for runs and hikes, so 100 zoomies yes, but perhaps marathon or ultras are out for him.

(All known medical and behavioral information is disclosed prior to adoption.)

What this pup Is looking For:

What We Know & Why We Love Them (foster/volunteer/staff feedback): His exuberance, appreciation for life, happy go lucky attitude (to a fault and without a second thought for consequences), his good looks and bouncy playful zest for adventure!

Foster Update 3/23/26:

Luchito is settling in really well. He has calmed down quite a bit, and has made really close friends with one of our resident dogs. We have also successfully introduced him to a few of our neighborhood dog friends, and he is hitting it off with everybody he meets!
