Louie of Greenville's Story

Date into Rescue: 3/28/2021
Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Louie is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.
Weight: 16 lbs
Height: 9 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $200

Fence needed? No

What kind of home would be best for me? Louie is looking for a quiet life. For a young dog, he has an older soul. His ideal home is with an active retiree. He has always lived with another dog and would enjoy the company, but could also be the only king of your castle. Louie has been around cats and mature children. He needs time to warm up and trust.

What is my personality like? Louie has a story to tell! Adopted from a shelter as a young puppy, he's lived his entire life with a very quiet retiree and one other dog. Socialization was limited but the love was big. Sadly, Louie's mom was diagnosed with cancer. She made the difficult and selfless decision to surrender Louie to rescue so that he could find the right new home.

According to the owner that surrendered Louie, he is trained to sit, goes outside for potty in summer, and uses training pads inside during the winter and during rain or wet weather. He gets along with other dogs and likes all people. He seems to have some being left-alone anxiety. His previous owner put him in a pen with bed, toys and pads when she was out, only for 2-4 hours on brief occasions. He barks and you hear the deep beagle bark.

Here is what our caregiving team has to say - Louie is slow to come around. He is shy and likes to stay to himself. He finds his comfort and safety in a crate with the door open. It took us about a week to get him to where we could pick him up without him submissive peeing, but once he learned his caregiver wasn’t a threat and wasn’t going to hurt him he gets excited for them to pick him up. In a nutshell, change is hard.

Louis needs structure and stability and routine. He is now a happy boy working on his confidence patiently waiting on his perfect home. He is clean in his crate and has never had an accident while he's been with us. He likes calmer dogs and would enjoy the company with a 4 legged buddy !

How do I act when I first meet new people? Shy, but warms up

Other tips and tidbits: Louie's estimated birthday is 9/25/2018

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
