Louie's Story

Louie has the kindest soul you’ll ever meet—and somehow, it’s still intact.
He was found alone at a dusty construction site, waiting beside an empty road for someone who would never come back. Left behind, forgotten, discarded. A vet exam told us more than we wanted to know: an old shotgun wound with buckshot still inside, a bad hip from who-knows-what, and heartworms from pure neglect. And yet—Louie doesn’t carry bitterness. What he carries is softness, kindness, gentleness, love. A deep, gentle love that radiates from his big, blocky head and soulful eyes. He’s about 8 years old and moves through the world like Sam Sheepdog from the cartoons—steady, calm, and with a quiet dignity you can’t teach (Boomer reference, sorry) He’s been tested with a pesky little bully of a dog, and you know what he did? Nothing. Just blinked slowly and went back to resting his big ol’ head.

Now in a caring foster home, Louie is finally being loved the way he always should have been—good food, a soft bed, gentle hands, and kind voices. He’s up to date on vaccines, and his heartworm treatment is underway, to be completed by early September. After that, this beautiful old soul will be ready to go home—for good.

Louie doesn’t need much—just love, comfort, and a quiet place to lay his head. Give him that, and he’ll give you the kind of love that only a dog who’s seen the worst and still chooses to love can offer.

Louie is located in Southern Mississippi, but we transport to several cities in the northeast. For out of town adoptions we can do online meet and greets with Facetime, Google Meets or Facebook Messenger. If you are interested in adopting Louie, please completely fill out an application at our website, animalaidms.org (link to the right side of this page). Once one of our rescue volunteers has reviewed your application and if you seem like a good fit, we will give you a phone call to discuss everything. Please note this can take a couple days.
