They thrive on attention and affection, making them loving companions. <br/><br/>Bold and Confident: Despite their small size, Chihuahuas carry themselves with confidence. They often exhibit a bold demeanor, not hesitating to confront larger dogs or unfamiliar situations. <br/><br/>Intelligent and Alert: Chihuahuas are highly intelligent and quick learners, which can make training enjoyable. Their alertness also makes them excellent watchdogs, as they are quick to notice changes in their environment. <br/><br/>Feisty Nature: These tiny dogs often have larger-than-life personalities. They thrive on mental stimulation and playtime, which helps keep them happy and healthy. <br/><br/>Backstory: Louie was an owner surrender to our rescue. He had lived with his human parents since a puppy but when grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and moved in with them, Louie barked at her in such a way that it upset her and the family. He was not aggressive toward her but barked at her incessantly. Owners reported that Louie knew grandma and that she had visited successfully with him numerous times but once the disease progressed and her personality changed, Louie started barking at her. This served to exacerbate her symptoms and they made the difficult choice of parting with Louie. <br/>Having been removed from the only home he ever knew and going through the vetting process first, Louie was so scared that he first presented as a biter. Once he arrived at the rescue, he began to sense that he was safe and welcomed and within the first week, he decided to drop his defensive behaviors and be one of the rescue gang. <br/>Louie gets along well with the other dogs at the rescue, both small and large. He is super athletic and can jump quite the distance straight up to show he wants something.
