Lou's Story

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED
Say hello to Lou! Lou is a playful 1.5-year-old, 32 lb Heeler/Terrier mix who is equal parts furry mythical creature and goofy little guy and who is ready to be your best friend and loyal companion!

Lou's ideal home takes him on lots of adventures and also enjoys cuddling on the couch and giving belly rubs. At 30 lbs, he is a curious little guy who loves hiking, chasing after his ball, and playing with other dogs. Once he trusts you, Lou is the sweetest and most affectionate guy- he loves to cuddle, give kisses, play, and nap by your side. He makes the most adorable noises when he's settling in for a cozy nap!

Lou is extremely smart and can be hyper aware, which leads to some reactivity around strange noises and unfamiliar people. A quiet home without children outside the hubbub of the city would be ideal for him. He bonds very intensely to his people and can be protective of his humans. He is sometimes slow to warm up to strangers, especially in and surrounding the home. His ideal family would have breed experience and understand how to help him live his best life.

Lou has been working hard on reducing his resource guarding, especially with food, using the “trade” command. His new family should be committed to helping him continue to improve. Lou is very trainable and has already learned sit, stay, touch, get it, down, rollover, shake, trade, and more! He is food-motivated and eager to learn.

He is fully potty trained and sleeps in his crate all night if needed. After his morning exercise, he usually naps or chews on his chew toys! Lou does great with other dogs and would love a dog sibling to play with and learn from. He especially enjoys playing with bigger dogs, and has, on occasion, shown prey drive towards smaller dogs so he would do best in a home with out small animals.

Lou is generally well-behaved and respectful on leash but does enjoy eating things off the ground and will pull if he sees a squirrel or rabbit. He does great in the car and has done well at doggy daycare. He enjoys chewing, and can chew things he shouldn't, but is easily redirected with a chew toy. He's always excited to greet you when you come home and will quickly become a member of your family.

Lou is fully vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $500.
