Lou's Story
Hi, I am Lou!
I am a 1 year old Hound mix, I weigh 59 pounds, and I like to describe myself as a big lovable goofball with a bark that could probably win a singing competition. I am what they call a gentle giant, but I definitely come with a little dramatic flair. I am a big boy with big energy and I need a big fenced in yard to match. Give me space to run, explore, and do my happy zooms and I will be the most joyful dog you have ever met.

I absolutely love kids and I thrive with an active family. If you are outside, I am outside. If you are going on an adventure, I am already in the car. I am basically your shadow, just taller and louder. Hard toys are my thing. Give me something sturdy and I will happily chomp away while wagging my tail like a helicopter. On the leash, I get excited and pull a bit at first, but once you let me know how fast we are going, I listen and fall right into step.

I bark a lot because I have opinions and emotions and I feel very strongly about birds, squirrels, and sometimes the wind. But at my core, I am a sweetheart who wants to love and be loved. I want a family who laughs at my silliness, enjoys my energy, and sees the big heart behind my big personality. If you want a loyal, goofy, energetic best friend who will make every day more fun, I promise I am your guy. 🐾

Lou is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.

Given the conditions Lou originated from, upon rescue, he tested positive for Heartworm disease. Thanks to Home for Good Dog Rescue, Lou has completed his Heartworm treatment.

*Heartworm disease is a serious and if left untreated, fatal disease. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels of affected animals, causing severe lung disease, heart failure, and damage to other organs in the body. Mosquitoes are carriers of heartworms and have the ability to infect dogs all year round, especially in the Southeastern portion of the United States and during the summer months.*

**Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application. All adoption applications must be completed on www.hfgdr.org**

HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC. All of our dogs are rescued from kill shelters in SC + GA and once ready for adoption live in loving local NJ foster homes until they find forever families of their own. Our fosters begin basic training, housebreaking, and leash-walking skills to help pair you with the perfect pup for life!

In order to apply for adoption and set up an individual meet and greet with one of our dogs, please visit us at www.hfgdr.org.

Find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HomeForGoodDogRescue.
