Loki's Story

Loki has used up at least two lives. He was on his last walk to the euthanasia chamber due to his extreme hyper activity at the shelter. He was under a year old and his person decided a large "puppy" with stress and such energy was "too much." He had no training, he had little exercise in the apartment where he spent most days caged and getting anxious.
He just wanted a companion but unfortunately the over full shelter would not accommodate his needs for play and exercise. Thank goodness one person reached out to make a last minute plea and we had space. Our wonderful transport team met us in an agreed place to transfer and bring him home. Loki really stunk and had nothing covering his bones but BOY was he happy to be anywhere other than jail.
On arrival and after basic health evaluations and care he got to meet the residents and be evaluated for emotional and behavioral needs. He is very much affiliate and attentive to his people. Hyper vigilance was his cause for most of the behaviors. He managed to try to follow a person out of the fenced yard by climbing the five plus foot gate area and wedge himself through.Fortunately this was a one time behavior. He cries whenever his people are leaving but he quickly settles and stops his anxious behavior. It just takes him time to adjust to his new home and be secure that he will never again be left or sent to prison for loyalty.
He is now a spoiled rotten, non fence climbing pup. He is on some anti anxiety medications to help with the separation driven trigger. We have used training methods to distract him and soothe the anxious behavior and he can now re focus and be left with his own calming of a toy or treat and commands. He is so smart that he learns commands quickly and even though he would rather we stay or take him everywhere, he accepts that is not going to happen and we will come back. He also loves to go for rides and adventure and he ALWAYS calls back or stays close when free walking.
My husband and I both just love this young shepherd. He is great with large and small dogs. He loves people, he plays and acts like a puppy still, he is a Shepherd after all. He takes a couple times to respond to "leave It" if he is really excited, but with a calm repeat of the command he will sit or lie down and leave it. He de-escalates on his own with a head pet and good boy. This dog is a fantastic companion animal with no bad habits and a charming funny loving loyal disposition. He is living as part of the family and we adore him.
We are seeking an active home with homebodies. He rides well in a car and loves off leash walks anywhere. He is going to grow up. With a positive secure human who won't abandon him he will mature to be an incredible lifelong companion. He will make you laugh every day ....guaranteed. Loki will pick you if you love him. He still thinks people are the most special things ever. Come meet our Loki clown, you'll love him too.
