Little Man

Little Man is another one of the dogs who came to us from the heartbreaking neglect situation involving multiple dogs being kept outside in cages. They had little to no food, were covered in fleas and ticks, and were drinking from mud puddles. A game warden discovered the dogs and reached out to us for help.<br/><br/>Despite everything he has been through, Little Man absolutely loves people! He enjoys attention and affection and is happy to spend time with the people caring for him. It is amazing how much love these dogs still have to give after coming from a life where even their most basic needs weren't being met.<br/><br/>We are slowly introducing Little Man to other dogs and giving him plenty of time to adjust. Like several of the dogs from this group, his previous experiences didn't give him the opportunity to learn healthy relationships with other dogs. They had to compete for food and resources, so we want his new experiences with dogs to be slow, positive, and safe. We will continue working with him and learning more about what type of canine companions, if any, will be the best fit for him.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, Little Man is also one of the dogs who tested positive for heartworms. He has started treatment, but heartworm treatment is a process that takes approximately 3–4 months to complete. That doesn't mean he has to spend all of that time waiting in the shelter for a family. If Little Man is adopted before his treatment is finished, his adopter will need to bring him back to us for his remaining scheduled treatments.<br/><br/>We aren't exactly sure what breed Little Man and the rest of the group are. Because of their history of originally coming from North Carolina, our best guess is that they may be Mountain Cur mixes.<br/><br/>Little Man came from a life where nothing was guaranteed—not food, clean water, comfort, or safety. Now he is learning that people can be trusted and that his needs will always be met. He already knows how to give love. Now he just needs a family who will give that love right back to him
