Lily Bell's Story

Meet Lily Bell, a very sweet 15-month-old black Labrador Retriever looking for her loving forever home. She’s a fairly petite girl at ~ 50-55 lbs. Lily Bell has been raised in our service dog training program and has learned many of her basic skills: sit, down, wait, here (hand target), let’s go, touch, and kennel. She is crate-trained and travels well.

Lily Bell is sweet, gentle, friendly, and affectionate. She likes to be near her people, without being too demanding of their attention.

She’s easy to have around the home requiring some, but minimal, supervision, and can settle nicely.

Lily Bell, unfortunately, cannot remain in our training program due to a diagnosis of hip dysplasia, although she is not experiencing any issues at this time. What does this mean? She will have a high risk of developing OA at a younger-than-average age. She will require a family that will provide her with what she needs to postpone those issues and continue to live a robust life, such as supplements, proper weight management, and appropriate exercise to maintain good muscle tone.

Lily Bell walks pretty nicely on a leash. She does like to sniff, is interested in new things, and curious about new surroundings. She will do best with an experienced handler.

Lily Bell enjoys other dogs and would be OK with another appropriate dog in the home. It will be important that any dog interactions/play are monitored and appropriate for maintaining her hip health. A calm, mature dog would be a good match.

Lily Bell has displayed that she loves the water and would be really happy with a family that can provide her with the opportunity to enjoy that. And swimming is a great low-impact exercise for her. She likes to learn and be mentally stimulated and would likely enjoy a dog sport such as nose work.

Lily Bell would like a family that will provide her with structure/routine, have plenty of time to interact with her, provide mental stimulation, lots of long walks, as well as other appropriate physical exercise.

Lily Bell’s adoption fee is $1,500. If you think that she sounds like a good match for you, please send an email to info@summitdogs.org (no phone calls, please) to request an application or ask questions.
