Meet Lily, our medical miracle!

Today Lily is a HEALTHY, 40 pound female shepherd mix. She gets along with other dogs and cats. She loves to play and cuddle.

Lily is a smart and loving dog, eager to please and willing to learn. She has lots of energy! Lily needs a fenced in yard so she can have plenty of room to run. An active family (no children under 10) that can give Lily the exercise she needs and prior dog experience would be the ideal home for our little survivor.

Lily isn't a fan of sharing her food with anyone and at times she's not willing to share her toys. You will understand why when you read more about her miraculous story...

Lily was rescued from North Carolina in July of 2022. It was soon discovered that Lily wasn't able to keep any food or water down. Only 20% was getting into her stomach. Lily was slowly starving to death.

Upon arriving in New Jersey Lily was taken to Red Bank Animal Hospital where she spent two weeks in ICU. There she was diagnosed with an esophageal diverticullum which is a pouch at the bottom of her esophagus. This pouch was the result of a small ring anomaly at the bottom of her esophagus. It was the size of a pinhole and that's why food and water wasn't getting to her stomach. As the food backed up because it couldn't get through the little hole, the pouch was formed. Lily ended up regurgitating everything. With nothing getting into her stomach, surgery was performed on Lily at 4.5 lbs to open up her esophagus. In order to survive a feeding tube was inserted directly into her stomach. To protect her from chewing on the tube she wore a cone at all times. Lily also had to wear a little doggy t-shirt to protect the tube itself. Sadly for Lily when she was not supervised she spent most of her time in a pen. She also needed to be muzzled when outdoors because nothing whatsoever was supposed to get into her mouth to avoid anything getting stuck in the pouch.

Lily spent her puppyhood living a very confined and sheltered life to help her get well. But when she was out and about she was like any other dog. Lily loved to run and play. Thankfully all went well and she slowly started to gain weight. After 4 months the feeding tube was finally removed. She continued to grow and gain weight.

And two years later hard to believe she is still up for adoption! Lily is about 40 lb and eats moistened dry kibble out of a bowl. She has no other medical restrictions. Please come and meet Lily the survivor!
