Lilly's Story

Meet Lilly – A Sweet Soul Discovering the World for the First Time

Lilly is a 3-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix who is experiencing life with fresh eyes. Until recently, she lived a very quiet life with her elderly owner and had never left the house. So when she came into our care, everything was new — her first walk on a leash, first car ride, first vet visit, even her first time wearing a harness.

We gave Lilly time to adjust, and it’s been amazing to watch her begin to trust and explore. Within a week, she started to relax and bond with her caregivers. Now, she loves going for walks (she’s young and full of energy!) and dashing around the fenced yard, chasing off any squirrel or robin that dares to enter her kingdom.

New sights and sounds still stop her in her tracks — like encountering children for the first time on a walk. With each day, she grows braver, and we know she’ll continue to blossom into the confident, playful dog she’s meant to be.

That said, no one told Lilly she only weighs 14 pounds — because in her mind, she’s the full-time guard dog of the house. She takes her job seriously and will alert you with a resounding bark whenever a person, bike, or dog passes by the window. If you're looking for a quiet dog, Lilly is not the one — but if you appreciate a spirited companion with a big personality, she’ll win your heart.

House Training & Ideal Home

Lilly is currently working on transitioning from pee pads to going potty exclusively outside. She’s great about using the fenced yard during the day, but still relies on a pee pad indoors overnight. Recently, she even barked to alert her foster mom in the middle of the night that she needed to go out — a sure sign she’s learning fast.

Because she won’t go potty while on leash, a securely fenced yard is a must for her continued progress. Her ideal adopter will be patient, consistent, and understanding as she continues to build confidence and learn routines.

Lilly is not a social butterfly — she’s more of a homebody who wants to be your shadow. She isn’t looking for adventures (although she enjoys a walk on a quiet trail in a park) or busy outings; she just wants a quiet life with a person or family who will give her lots of love, gentle reassurance, and cuddles. She loves to snuggle in bed and will softly paw your arm to ask for more pets.

What Lilly Needs in an Adopter

A calm, patient home (preferably with shy dog experience)

A fenced yard for potty breaks and zoomies

A cat-free home (she will chase, and she’s quick!)

Willingness to maintain regular grooming (every 6–8 weeks) and vet care

Realistic expectations — shy dogs like Lilly take time to fully blossom, but it's worth it

Lilly has lived peacefully with other small dogs in her foster home and could do well with a gentle canine companion. With time, stability, and love, Lilly will become an incredibly loyal and loving friend. She’s already made incredible progress — and with the right person, she’ll continue to shine.

She is fixed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and had full bloodwork. She is a healthy dog. If you are interested, you can email tysonsplacerescue@gmail.com or fill out an adoption application available at https://tysonsplacerescue.org/cat-and-dog-adoptions/#adopt
