Lil Nell-ADOPTED!'s Story

4/30/03 UPDATE from Lil Nell's foster mom, Denise Gatlin of Alexandria, LA: I had Lil Nell's heartworm treatment done last week and she is here with me now and is doing very well. She is such a doll! She crates very well and willingly and rides well in the car. She is the softest dog ever on a leash, NEVER pulls and would make an awesome walking or strolling partner. When I am working in my flowerbeds outside in the yard she stays right by my side. She is good with children, all male dogs, cats and even the little Chihuahuas. (It is best that she not be with dominant adult female dogs as Lil Nell wants to be alpha.) She will be ready for her forever home at the end of May. Could you be Lil Nell's new family? Please contact Denise at ddgat0306@aol.com for more info.

*** ORIGINAL 2/19/03 POST: For nearly three months, LIL NELL was known as the "Chevron dog." She hung out at a Chevron gas station on the northshore and try as they might, no one could catch her! Several people left food for her to keep her going, but it was clear that living on the streets was taking its toll on this brave girl.

One night, our fabulous foster parent, Denise Gatlin of Alexandria, decided to try her hand at catching the now famous Chevron dog. Well, Lil Nell must've known a good thing when she saw it because she came right up to Denise's van, allowed her to put a lead on her, and jumped right in! Denise says Lil Nell was so skinny she was within days of starving to death. Now after weeks of nutritious food and lots of love, Lil Nell is looking and feeling like a completely different dog. We think she is about 7 years old, but she acts much younger! She is very active and alert and would be a perfect watchdog. For more info, please contact Denise at ddgat0306@aol.com.
