Lia's Story

Lia is a 5-year-old, 27-pound female shepherd / chihuahua mix from Mexico! Lia is a very loving, affectionate, silly pup.

Lia's favorite thing in the world is to be next to her person. She loves to snuggle, take a nap on top of you, or just any kind of attention she can get. She also loves to play with her toys, run at the park, and gets the silliest zoomies. She is truly a joy to be around and will make you feel the most loved you've ever felt— if you want a Velcro dog who bonds hard, she's your girl.

Lia is a little wary of new people but once she bonds to her person you are in for life. She is extremely affectionate with those that she loves. She is still working on being trusting with strangers but she gets better every day and she always appreciates pets, as long as she feels safe and her boundaries are respected.

Lia is house trained on pee pads and is getting the hang of doing her business outside. She is slowly starting to work on her obedience training— so far she knows “sit” and is eager to please (especially if you have chicken).

So far Lia can be left alone in a room for 1-2 hours, but starts to cry and get anxious if left for longer, so her forever family will need to continue working with Lia to reinforce and advance the progress she's been making.

Lia can be very playful but appreciates an overall more calming energy from those around her. She recently tackled the subway and has gotten accustomed to the loud noises of the lower east side. Lia would be happy solo or might also do well with another dog to show her the ropes! She would do well with teenagers who are able to respect her boundaries.

Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention.

To apply to adopt Lia, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for a foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available.

Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue.

Questions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org
