WANTED:

A forever family, who is ACD savvy, that would love to add a friendly, smart, sweet and fun loving, velcro kind of guy to round out their current pack. LEVI is your dog!

Levi is a 5 year old medium to low energy boy, who loves to snuggle and be petted and follow his people around to be near them all day long. He is housebroken, loves car rides, is good on leash and is more interested in being with his people than anything else. Levi can be distracted by some pesky squirrels or deer, so he does have a decent prey drive and can run quite fast when he chooses. Levi continues to build on his skills in his foster home and can boast knowing how to do things like sit, down, give paw, go to mat, wait, come etc. He has come to know our routine very quickly and is quite an easy going guy. He would likely do well with other dogs that are calm and respectful as he can get excited while playing, but is easily redirected. He wants to please and will do his very best to accomplish whatever is asked of him.

Levi was found as a stray in Maryland this past summer and was adopted out, but returned due to his Separation Anxiety. Through all of our reading and work with Levi, we see that he also is not appreciative of being confined in any way or being shut into an area such as a crate or room with a closed door. Levi is fearful of being left behind by his people, which is being worked on at his foster home. His forever family would need to be totally committed to working through this with Levi, as he is very sensitive and anything less than full attention to his Separation Anxiety issue would be very unfair to Levi. A home where Levi could be around his people all the time would be ideal.

Levi did live with a cat and a German Shepherd Dog in his adoptive home this past fall for a short time. He currently shares his foster home with 2 ACD’s that are getting acquainted with Levi and doing better all the time.

Levi makes friends and makes people smile and laugh everywhere he goes, including Vet visits. He greets visitors with happy tail wags and is always happy to receive a treat. On that note, we are helping Levi to lose some extra weight ( he is currently 66 lbs, down from 70 lbs, with a few more pounds to lose ) and his adoptive family would need to be dedicated to the same result. He is happy to go on walks, does well on leash, runs around a fenced yard well, and then loves to go inside and have a nap near his people. He is very agile and can jump quite high, so unless on a farm, it would be best for Levi to have a fenced yard and not be left alone in that yard.

Levi is fun loving, all around good dog and would likely fit into many situations, as long as the family is dedicated to working with his Separation Anxiety with him in earnest, until he gains confidence and trust and can maintain it. Levi has soulful eyes that have a story to tell and he is hoping for his permanent happily ever after landing soon!

Levi is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, on monthly heart worm preventive, and microchipped.

Levi is being fostered in Clinton, NJ. For questions, please contact heelersarethestorm@gmail.com.
