Leo's Story

Leo is the most resilient boy you’ll ever meet! With a horrible leg injury that went untreated for about a year he was surrendered to Save a Lab Rescue. Once his leg was amputated, he became a new dog! As a tripod, Leo can run and fetch and play and is clearly enjoying his new lease on life!

Leo is around 7 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. Understandably, he struggles a bit with stairs but can do a few at a time. With his new lease on life, Leo felt determined to make up for some of the shenanigans he missed when he was injured; so, he can get into mischief when left alone. But he isn’t bothered by a crate and is content in it while you are out of the house. Currently, he sleeps in a crate at night mostly because he would have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the bedroom. He also does very well sleeping on a dog bed next to his human’s bed, if stairs aren’t a factor.

Leo loves kids and every dog he meets! He is very respectful of another dog’s space. He even likes cats! Leo is a wonderful, laid-back boy who is super friendly, moderate energy and looking for little more than to be with his people as much as he can. Leo is always happy to see people and doesn’t jump on them.

Leo loves to chase a tennis ball and is an excellent retriever! He is food motivated with no aggression around food or toys; he just wants to live his very best life. Leo appreciates love and attention. He is so sweet, he will put his head against you and wrap his one front leg right around you for a hug!

Leo has a favorite stuffy that he will take everywhere with him, even outside. One of his funny quirks is that he is a bit modest and only likes to potty in privacy ?

Leo is a total gem. He will be happy in a home where he gets lots of love and attention. He loves other dogs and if he gets knocked off balance by them, he handles it like a champ and gets right back up! Leo is an exceptional boy and will make a lucky family very happy! He deserves all of the love to make up for everything he has been through.

Leo is available for adoption on, or after December 9th, 2025

If you are interested in Leo and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Leo’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Leo will be fostered in RI
