Lenard's Story

Lenard is a tiny senior gentleman who navigates life guided by his incredible sense of smell. Blind and deaf, he has adapted beautifully by mapping out familiar spaces and following comforting scents and routines.
He sleeps best nestled between pillows on the bed, close enough to feel safe. He typically sleeps through the night, with one quick early-morning potty break before settling back in until sunrise. During the day, he enjoys gentle wandering, long naps, and the security of knowing his people are nearby.
He loves other calm senior dogs who don't mind a little bumping when he gets comfortable. His foster siblings Bruno and Olive have become his anchors -- he takes great comfort in snuggling close to them. Because he becomes anxious when he cannot find his people, Lenard would do best in a home where someone is present most of the time.
Lenard is housetrained but needs more frequent potty breaks due to his age. When left alone for more than about an hour, he wears a belly band (nicknamed "Man Pamps") to help prevent accidents. He cannot navigate stairs and must be carried outside for potty breaks. He is never left alone outdoors.
Confinement, such as crates or pens, causes him panic. He also does not enjoy car rides and should always travel in a secure carrier.
His favorite room is the kitchen -- he will find his way there the moment he smells something delicious. Food brings him joy, and despite missing teeth, he does very well with toy-breed sized kibble.
Lenard may have wobbly knees due to luxating patellas, but with medication he still gets around safely and does not let this slow him down.
Lenard is looking for a calm, structured home with another gentle dog and a person who understands the needs of senior companions -- someone who will cherish his sweet routines, protect his dignity, and allow him to live out his golden years with comfort and love.To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.

https://longwayhome.org/apply

❤
Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.
