Leary's Story

Meet Adoptable Mix Leary: Your New Favorite Oddball!

Looking for a pup that's equal parts snuggle bug, goofball, and mystery? Meet Leary, a 4-year-old, 20-pound dachshund mix who's got personality for days— and plenty of love to give to the right family.

Leary's a one-of-a-kind guy who keeps things interesting. One minute he's shy and quiet, the next he's jumping into a stranger's lap for cuddles like you've known each other forever. He's super affectionate, especially with young kids— though he does get a little rear-happy (he rears up like a horse sometimes!), which could be a bit much for toddlers still finding their balance.

• Dog + Human Vibes:

• Other dogs? It's a toss-up! Sometimes playful, sometimes shy, and occasionally grumbly. He'd likely do best as a solo pup or with a very chill canine companion who respects his space.

• Cats? We're not sure yet—he hasn't been tested.

• People? Loves everyone. Seriously. Will climb into your lap without asking.
Major cuddler.

• Kids under 5? Yes! But again, watch out for the rearing—he means well, we promise.

* Walks & Potty Time:

• Leash skills: Eh... he tries. He zigzags, pauses, backtracks, and sometimes just... stops. But he's improving!

• Potty trained: Yes! He uses a doggy door like a pro. If it's blocked, though, he may treat your rug as plan B.

• Crate trained: Yes! He may whine a little at first but settles in for the night like a champ.

Cars, Crates & Cuddles:

• He loves car rides, though he gets the zoomies in the backseat and wants to be with his people.

• At night, he's a great sleeper and wakes up like clockwork at 7am. (Hope you're a morning person!)

• No issues with food or toy aggression-just a sweet, if slightly dramatic, soul.

Quirks & Character:

• Very vocal. Barks at shadows. Barks when he's anxious. Barks when you leave. (It's kind of his thing.)

• Anxious tendencies: He paces, whines, and can get overwhelmed. A calm, structured home will help him thrive.

• Intelligent and eager to learn! He picks up tricks quickly and loves mental stimulation. Agility course, anyone?

• Energetic and athletic—he'll keep you on your toes, then collapse into your lap for a nap.

Vetting and Medical:

In our care, Leary has received a Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary - like for acute infection), Spay or Neuter, Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication.

IMPORTANT!!: Leary is currently heartworm positive and being treated using the slow-kill treatment method where he gets a pill once a month that slowly kills off the heartworms in his body and prevents new ones. Slow-kill heartworm treatment generally takes about 9 months and Leary is already over 2 months into treatment! His adopter will need to continue giving him his monthly medication and then will need to get him re-tested for heartworm after completing his medication.

Medical Donations:

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Please go to the Low Rider website:

www.LowRiderRescue.org
