Leah's Story
Meet Leah – a senior city gal with style, sass, and a story.

Leah has done everything right. She posed in pink. She wore her best harness. She smiled for the camera and curled up in cozy beds. We shared her story. We showed the world her love of plush toys, her sidewalk strut, her signature cuddles.

But no one came for her.

Leah is a 9-year-old, 45-pound mixed breed with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She is spayed, vaccinated, house-trained, and friendly with other dogs. She has lived in a home before. She knows how to settle in and be part of a routine. But she also needs someone who understands her.

Her story is painful: After years of loyalty, Leah’s previous owner abandoned her. Later, that same person publicly posted that Leah had passed away — but Leah isn’t gone. She’s still here, still waiting, still hoping that someone will choose her for real this time.

Leah has been adopted and returned three times. Not because she’s not lovable — but because she needs a special kind of home. She’s a senior girl with boundaries. She can be protective of her belongings (resource guarding), and she doesn’t always like to share. She knows what she likes, and she’s not afraid to say so.

But once Leah trusts you, she’s incredibly affectionate. She’ll nap beside you while you work, follow you around the house, and be your quiet, loyal companion. She has a sense of humor, a sassy streak, and a whole lot of charm — but she needs someone experienced, someone patient, and someone who won’t give up on her.

If you’ve ever loved an older dog with a big personality, you already know how special a companion Leah could be.

Foster or adopt her — and help rewrite the ending of a story that almost ended too soon.

To inquire about Leah:
Call/text: 917-689-8414
Email: info@amsterdog.org

Apply at: AmsterDog.org

Leah is currently being fostered in the NYC area. Transportation is available for approved adopters or fosters, but we’re especially hoping to find someone local — someone in the city who can truly appreciate a city girl like Leah.
