LD's Story

This guy isn't "one and done", you're not going to come pick him up and take him home. You're going to have to get to know him and build trust in him before he'll accept you as his leader.

HISTORY
LD got cheated out of his life and being a good dog. He was surrendered to the shelter around 6 months likely due to behaviors created by a lack of training. He was adopted and in a home for a year where his owner didn't do any training, socialization, and it is doubtful he was ever allowed into the house. That owner tried to rehome him unsuccessfully and LD was found on the freeway attempting to stop cars and get into a vehicle. After he was picked up he was doing great until he landed at the rescue.

LD is located in West Richland, Wa. We advertise our dogs in a variety of locations in an effort to improve their chances of finding great homes. We can assure you, this pup is well worth a road trip!

SOCIALIZATION
LD has lived at a rescue facility for 8 years and largely been kept separate from dogs and people due to his reactivity to strangers. He adapted to his foster mom easily and several others that took the time to gain his trust. Once he trusts you and sees you as his leader you won't find a better best friend.

LD will need an experienced leader who is patient and can work with him until he feels safe and secure.

LD currently lives on my sofa; he's started to monopolize my side and seems to prefer being in constant contact with me even if he's overheating. He spends some of his day crated when other dogs are out to play and get outside

GENERAL TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
LD could be an 80-pound lap dog if you allow for that, he's a very good cuddler.
He enjoys being outside in the sunshine either on the grass or a comfy bed. He plays with a big jolly ball and will balance it on his nose along the fence.
He has no thoughts of running away or trying to escape a fenced area. He's been visited by others in his yard and typically he gets along well with them, but he hasn't gotten along well with another male dog that got surprised when a door opened unexpectedly and there was an inappropriate introduction.
He will play fetch with balls, toys, or soccer with his special bigger ball. He also loves a dip in the pool but if his feet don't touch, he gets freaked out.
Hiking when its cooler weather is another of his favorite things. He does well on leash if you show him who the leader is.
LD will bark at things that don't belong and strangers. He's easy to muzzle for meeting new people or going to the vet.

TRAINING
He's crate trained, sometimes requires being bribed with good treats or eggs before he'll go in.

HEALTH STATUS
LD has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for parasites. He appears to be in good health, and weighs around 80 lbs. Based on available information, we've designated 09/30/2017 making him at least 8 years old.

LD's adoption fee is $400. To adopt this special dog, please complete an online adoption application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAWA-A-70 or write to HearthfireART@gmail.com and request an adoption application form.

HART's dogs are all in private homes - we do not have a facility. We will be happy to arrange for you to meet LD, and any of our other dogs you may be interested in, once we have approved your application to adopt.

Please note, LD is located in the Tri-Cities, Eastern Washington. We do not transport our dogs via a third party, but, if necessary, we will arrange transportation to an approved home within the Pacific Northwest, at your expense.

HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
