Meet Laila(Paws in Prison Participant)

Laila, female lab mix, 1 year, 50 lbs. $250 adoption fee
If Laila could talk, she would be soft-spoken. No boisterous outbursts. No trying to talk over everyone in the room. Just a gentle, calming tone that puts people at ease and stills storm clouds. Yeah, that’s what Laila would sound like. She came from a bad situation, but we’re not sure what it was. She was found tied up to an abandoned house on Lake Hamilton. Maybe she lived there and her people moved away without her. Or maybe they brought her from somewhere else and left her that. Either way, it’s still cruelty. And there’s no way Laila ever caused a ruckus. She’s the softest, sweetest dog. Laila is a year old and weighs 50 pounds. She likes other dogs. Cats don’t freak her out. But her big deal is people. She wants to be with people. Close to them and included by them. That’s all. She is extremely smart and doesn’t require constant attention; she just wants to know that you love her and that she can count on you to stay. If you think about it, that’s what all of us want, too. So there...you and Laila already have something in common. Sounds to me like that’s a great starting point for a beautiful relationship.

Laila is in the Paws in Prison program where dogs receive obedience training. This dog is expected to graduate from Paws in Prison mid to
late April. The dogs in this program are trained under the AKC Canine Good Citizen standards and are specifically selected to be family and companion dogs. They spend 24 hours a day with their trainers. For that reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside dogs and spend lots of time with their families. The adoptive family will receive their training journal. This journal documents everything from entering the facility, daily training progress, and interactions with trainers.
