Laila's Story

Laila: 1-2 Year Old Labrador Mix, Spayed Female, 60 Pounds
Foster / Adopter

Background:
Laila was found tied to the side of a road in Contra Costa County and taken to the local shelter, where she was at risk of being euthanized due to lack of space.

Thankfully, a foster quickly stepped up with hopes of adopting her. While that decision ultimately proved too much for the foster to take on, it's an emotionally difficult decision for the foster as she feels she's let Laila down.

Laila is a young, sensitive dog who will thrive with consistent structure, training, clear boundaries, and continued socialization to help her build confidence and feel secure in the world. Everyone who has met Laila through GGLRR—including two volunteers during evaluations and a veterinarian at Bishop Ranch—has described her as initially timid. However, once she feels safe, her true personality begins to shine. During a recent volunteer visit, Laila barked at first and stayed close behind her foster, but after the volunteer sat down and began chatting, Laila relaxed, warmed up, and happily accepted full handling. She even pawed at her foster, asking for attention.

What Laila's Current Foster Says:
“Laila and my dog Kona play together (sometimes a little rough), but since Kona is the alpha, Laila tends to follow his lead. I have cats, and Laila does okay with them, though she may chase if they run. She has learned ‘no’ when play biting and releases right away—she’s not aggressive, just seeking attention. Crate training has been challenging; she prefers to go into Kona’s crate.

Laila is strong and would do best in a home without small children or frail adults. She needs a lot of patience, structure, and guidance.”

Laila is looking for an experienced, committed home that understands young dogs who are still learning and growing. With the right leadership, training, and patience, Laila has the potential to blossom into a confident, loving companion.

Medical:
Laila is spayed, heartworm tested (negative), and up to date with Rabies and DHPP vaccines.

Located In: Pleasant Hill.

If you are interested in Laila, please contact Rescue Rep Kris at krisellen.nm@gmail.com.

In your email, please tell me about yourself and why you would be a good fit for Laila.
