Laika's Story

Hi, my name is Laika! I'm a GREEN pawprint, which means I will fit well into most homes. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Quirky, affectionate
-Can Live with Kids: Yes, respectful dog-savvy kids of any age.
-Can Live with Cats: Has lived with cats in the past, slow and extended supervised introductions and interactions necessary to make sure everyone will get along.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, pending an initial introduction done here at WHS.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks, northern breed dogs require more space to really thrive.
-Potty Trained: Appears to be!
-Bite History: Nope
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No
-Energy Level: Medium/High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a microchip!

Laika is a beautiful, goofy girl with a big heart and an even bigger personality. She came to the shelter through no fault of her own after her previous owner became severely ill, and now she’s ready to find a new pack to call her own. This affectionate Husky loves being around her people and will happily lean in for pets, attention, and quality time. She’s got that classic Husky charm—silly, expressive, and always keeping you smiling. Her ideal home will have realistic expectations and experience with (or solid knowledge of) the Husky breed. Laika is smart and curious… and yes, she’s been known to channel her inner Houdini. Because of her escape-artist tendencies, she’s not a fan of being left alone outside and would do best with secure containment and supervised outdoor time. With her luscious coat, regular grooming will be an important part of Laika’s routine. Consistent brushing and coat care will help keep her comfortable and prevent any unwanted matting—plus, it’s a great way to bond with her.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
