Lafayette's Story

Smart, affectionate, and playful: Lafayette has it all!

Lafayette is an adorable 8-month-old German Shepherd who is learning and growing every day. He has so much potential just waiting to shine, and he responds beautifully to kind guidance and rewards. Praise, treats, baby talk and even kissy sounds are all great motivators for him. This sweet boy is eager to please his people! He already knows “Sit” and “Paw,” and loves interactive games like fetch and tug. Stuffy toys and squeaky plushies are his favorites. Once the toys come out, his confidence really grows.

While Lafayette can sometimes need a moment to warm up in new situations, repetition and familiarity help him relax quickly. With people he’s gotten to know, he shows a loose body and seeks out low-key affection, leaning in gently to pets and even offering his paw unprompted. Lafayette’s history tells an encouraging story, too. He’s described as a great dog who is crate trained, house trained, quiet and generally easy to live with. He’s done well meeting new people, has positive experiences with other dogs and has even visited a horse farm where he did great with the horses!

Are you ready to grow with this young, loving pup? We encourage a $150 suggested adoption fee when adopting an animal. This adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any amount given at the time of adoption.*
For more information on adopting from the ASPCA, please visit www.aspca.org/adoptionsteps.

**The ASPCA is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of the community, the animals in our care and our staff, and we are keeping a close eye on developments related to the COVID-19 crisis as they evolve. As such, the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City is currently closed for in-person visitors. However, we are excited to offer remote adoptions using video conferencing! In-person meet-and-greets are also sometimes available or required for specific animals. Please check out our available cats and dogs above, and if one catches your eye, apply directly for him or her. An ASPCA Matchmaker will let you know if the animal you are interested in adopting is eligible for or requires an in-person meet-and-greet.

Please note: Adoption applications are handled in the order they are received and submitting an adoption survey does not constitute a hold or guaranteed adoption. You can expect to receive automated emails updating you on your adoption status as our Matchmakers go through applications. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you find your match!**
