Kuma's Story

*** AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, or FOSTER TO ADOPT ***

Meet Kuma! She is currently enrolled in our P.A.C.K. Program, a 9-week intensive program for routine obedience, agility, and handling training with a prison inmate trainer and she is almost ready to show off her new skills! Her new abilities include 'sit', 'down', 'shake' and more! New adopters should realize that PACK Program graduates will require regular, ongoing reinforcement of learned behaviors in order for them to become permanent.

Kuma is like the Energizer Bunny in Labrador form. True to the breed, she's delightfully puppy-ish and full of life-and that description fits her perfectly! This girl lives for fetch, playtime, and exercise.

Kuma is friendly with every dog she's met and does well sharing her toys. She's affectionate too, especially when it comes to neck scratches and belly rubs. Once her exercise needs are met, she knows how to relax and chill in the house-but getting that energy out first is key!

She is currently on medication to help manage anxiety related to insufficient exercise. We recommend continuing this medication for at least a couple of months after adoption, though it may also be beneficial long-term.

Kuma hasn't always loved her kennel, but she's made great progress at PACK and has learned that it's a safe, comfortable space.

She has been introduced to cats and seemed to do okay. With proper supervision and continued training, she may be able to live successfully in a home with cats.

If you're looking for an active, loving companion who will keep you moving and then happily snuggle once the day is done, Kuma could be your perfect match! She'll graduate towards the end of January. Apply to meet her today!

Black Dog Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
BDAR considers pet adoption to be a privilege and that good pet owners can demonstrate a history of responsible practices. Our basic requirements are as follows: Adopters must be at least 18 years of age Adopters’ current pets must be current on their rabies vaccination per local ordinances Adopters must be able to provide a current veterinary reference if they own other pets or have recently owned pets If the adopter rents, they must be able to provide a landlord reference stating that pets are allowed on the property Adopter cannot intend for the animal to be kept as an outdoor only pet, or for the primary mode of containment to be tethering Adopters must be a good match for the animal in question as determined by our adoption counselors Our adoption fees includes spay or neuter, current age appropriate vaccinations, microchip with lifetime registration, a free first vet exam, and 30 free days of pet health insurance. A note about our adoption fees: BDAR utilizes a variable pricing structure for all of its adoptable animals. Adoption fees are determined based on an animal's perceived desirability, age, training or medical investment, and the length of time they have been available for adoption. Some animals are priced higher than others. These animals' adoption fees provide a legacy gift for others in the program who may need additional resources in order to get the same chance in a forever home.
