Kona's Story

Kona

German Shepherd

Medium Adult Female

Kona is a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix. She weighs in at an ideal 60 lbs. Kona is a medium to high-energy dog, and although she walks great on leash, she requires a daily off leash run to release her zoomies. She comes from a loving household whose owners sadly have to rehome her due to their unexpected declining health. Kona is fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She completed beginner's training classes and responds to basic commands. She is housetrained and crate-trained. She can be trusted to roam the house alone; however, she prefers crate access throughout the day and for sleeping at night. She travels well by car, RV, golf cart, or boat and adapts quickly to camping, hotels, and visiting new places. She loves swimming, sprinklers, dog toys, but mostly, anything to do with chasing a ball. She is treat-motivated and responsive to training. Kona requires slow introductions to new dogs but does well with the few mixed size and age dogs in her family's circle. She currently shares her home with a female 10-year-old Shar Pei mix and initially did guard her food bowl and water bowl from the other dog but that behaviour has resolved. She has not attended any dog parks. She is untested with cats and has limited exposure to children. She does bark at children and some adult men, yet befriends them after her owners perform a meet and greet. She recently attended a private session at her training kennel to test her tolerance. She demonstrates typical guard breed behaviour. The trainer has no concerns with Kona settling into a home with children or other dogs but she does benefit from slow introductions to both. Kona is a silly character; she loves constant attention and human cuddles. Kona would be best suited in a home where she can be given the daily exercise, play time, and attention she needs. She would enjoy attending further training classes to strengthen her bond with her new family.

Kona is currently located in Sudbury but we have drivers who can help get her to other locations if needed.
