Koko's Story

Meet Koko. This senior man is a true introvert and has us all a little perplexed. He has no desire to bond with people but is tolerant when forced to spend time with them.

Will Koko give you cuddles? No. Will he want to spend time with you and your family on the couch? No. Does he even want to come inside the house? Not really. Would he enjoy being fed regularly? Yes. Would he like a comfy dog house in a nice yard or on some land he can roam? Absolutely! It's not often that we recommend a dog be adopted as an outside dog but we do think he'd be happiest if that was the arrangement. He's a real lone wolf. He is very good on a leash though and we think he would enjoy daily walks - which might be a good way to develop a bond with him. Bonus points if the walks are in the snow - he LOVES snow!

While Koko is not looking for anyone, he has to have someone to at least be kind to him and provide him the basics. So, we are looking for a home for Koko that understands his desire to do his own thing and maybe offer a head pat or two when Koko wants it. And, who knows maybe as time goes on Koko will learn how nice it is to be a part of a family that wants to include him in their lives. But, until that day comes, he needs someone to love and accept him just the way he is. Don't we all?

If Koko sounds like a dog you would be interested in caring for, apply to meet him today!

Black Dog Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
BDAR considers pet adoption to be a privilege and that good pet owners can demonstrate a history of responsible practices. Our basic requirements are as follows: Adopters must be at least 18 years of age Adopters’ current pets must be current on their rabies vaccination per local ordinances Adopters must be able to provide a current veterinary reference if they own other pets or have recently owned pets If the adopter rents, they must be able to provide a landlord reference stating that pets are allowed on the property Adopter cannot intend for the animal to be kept as an outdoor only pet, or for the primary mode of containment to be tethering Adopters must be a good match for the animal in question as determined by our adoption counselors Our adoption fees includes spay or neuter, current age appropriate vaccinations, microchip with lifetime registration, a free first vet exam, and 30 free days of pet health insurance. A note about our adoption fees: BDAR utilizes a variable pricing structure for all of its adoptable animals. Adoption fees are determined based on an animal's perceived desirability, age, training or medical investment, and the length of time they have been available for adoption. Some animals are priced higher than others. These animals' adoption fees provide a legacy gift for others in the program who may need additional resources in order to get the same chance in a forever home.
