Kodiak's Story

Hi there! I'm Kodiak, a purebred Border Collie with a big brain, a bigger heart, and a natural instinct to herd anything that moves—sheep, chickens, kids, you name it! I was born to work, and I thrive when I have a job to do. Whether it's helping out on a farm, running agility courses, or learning new tricks, I'm happiest when I'm busy and both my body and mind are engaged.

I'm super smart (seriously, puzzle toys are my jam), loyal to my people, and always ready to go, go, go! I’m not meant for the couch-potato life—I need space to run, tasks to complete, and someone who understands what a working dog like me needs. A home on a farm, ranch, or with someone experienced in herding breeds would be my dream come true.

I can be a bit selective when it comes to my doggy friends. When working I get along with everyone, but, once the job is done, I like to relax with just a chosen few other dogs (I prefer female to male dogs...but my best friend is actually a male springer spaniel--go figure!). I am not good with cats and would not be a good fit with in a home with small/young children. Older (> 13 yr), dog savvy kids would be OK.

I am house-broken, crate-trained, know several "tricks" and have excellent recall. I am neutered and up-to-date on my vaccinations.

If you’re looking for a clever, driven, and devoted partner to work and adventure with, I just might be your perfect match. Let’s get to work—and have some fun doing it! Please contact kathie@herdinghaven.org if you would like to meet me.
