Kobe is a sweet, sensitive hound mix who was rescued from neglect and, thanks to good care, has filled out to a perfect 44 pounds. <br/><br/>He's got a strong instinct to retrieve balls, and that same prey drive means he needs to always be leashed or in a secure, fenced yard- squirrels and other woodland creatures don't stand a chance if he's loose. His foster dad recently learned this the funny way: Kobe spotted a bobcat outside the fence and took off after it in a full panic-sprint, only to come strutting back the second the bobcat disappeared, puffed up like the toughest dog in the yard. It's a pretty perfect snapshot of his personality- once he feels safe, he's confident, enthusiastic, and a total goofball, but anything new or uncertain can send him running for cover.<br/><br/>That same sensitivity shows up with new people, too. Kobe is shy at first and may back away if approached quickly, but with a little patience he warms up fast, often within ten minutes, and becomes a loyal, affectionate companion. He walks well on a leash (a no-pull harness works great), enjoys chewing on bones, and has a moderate energy level- generally quiet and easygoing except when he's playing! <br/><br/>Kobe loves the company of other dogs and would do best in a home with another energetic, respectful dog to play with, plus a fenced yard or regular daily walks to burn off that hound speed. He can get mouthy during play, so he's best suited to a family with kids who are a bit older rather than toddlers or younger. <br/><br/>Kobe is clearly happiest now that he's safe and cared for, and he's ready for a home where he can keep being his confident, occasionally ridiculous self.<br/><br/>We estimate Kobe's birthday to be April of 2024.<br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper, <br/>Current pets must by spayed/neutered.<br/><br/>Adoption fees cover age specific vaccinations, martingale collar, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming and transport fees. <br/><br/>Adoption fees: <br/>Through 6 months of age $450; <br/>7 months to through 5 years $400; <br/>6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500; <br/>9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300 <br/><br/>This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England. <br/><br/>Imported dogs are transported on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate.
