Meet Kiwi-female Cocker/Mini Poodle mix puppy

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AREA
ONLY THOSE WHOM SUBMIT A FULLY COMPLETED ADOPTION APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED-DETAILS BELOW

Sweet Kiwi is a Cocker Spaniel/Mini Poodle mix (commonly nicknamed Cockapoo) female puppy who was surrendered to our care by a commercial breeder after they discovered she has a deformed left front paw, which is not stopping this determined, spunky girl from loving life in her foster home!

Approx DOB Feb 25/24, she is just a wee puppy who will require a family who is home often and lives within 1hr max of Waterloo ON as she will need to return to our vet (at our expense) for her vaccination boosters and spay surgery when age appropriate

Kiwi has had her full vet assessment/first vaccines and given the all clear to find her forever family.
Her paw malformation is known as Ectrodactyly (split-hand or lobster claw deformity) -one of several congenital bone abnormalities seen in dogs. It is characterized by a soft tissue and boney split between metacarpal bones and the radius and ulna, along with deformities of the carpal bones

Her full assessment has deemed that nothing further needs to be done, she is functioning fabulously and due to being a smaller breed, is not expected to have any future concerns with this paw

BEFORE APPLYING-Mandatory
*Seeking a home with a suitable canine companion/playmate
*Children must be over 8yrs, respectful and dog savvy with previous experience with dogs in the home.
* Mandatory registration with an approved trainer is required to set Kiwi up for success with her new family
*Must be located within one hour max of Waterloo, Ontario and be willing and able to return to our vet in Waterloo for Kiwi's additional vetting incl spay when age appropriate.
*Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard
* Someone home often due to her very young age and needs for hourly potty breaks and mental stimulation/training

Notes from Kiwi's foster mom
PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S DAILY ROUTINE FOR EXERCISE, TRAINING ETC Kiwi loves to run and play and explore in our fenced yard. Training at her young age is focused on potty training, recalls and sit.

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED? Kiwi is food motivated.

GOOD WITH DOGS BOTH IN THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS MEETING NEW DOGS? PLEASE DETAIL
Kiwi is such a friendly and outgoing dog. She is gradually being introduced to a variety of dogs and she wanted to be best friends with all of them immediately, both large and small breeds

With her young age, she has not met many people but she has loved everyone she has met so far.

GOOD WITH CATS? Kiwi is very interested in becoming friends with our cat, she desperately wants him to play but so far so far he has no interest.

ANY GUARDING BEHAVIOURS No guarding behaviors.
HOUSETRAINED? No
CRATE TRAINED? No

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S BEHAVIOR IN THE CRATE. Kiwi is only crated when left alone, she will cry when first put in the crate.

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S LEASH SKILLS.
Kiwi is has been too young to go on walks but has done well when on a leash at the pet store and at the vet.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG REACT WHEN YOU TOUCH THE EARS, TAIL, PAWS ETC. PLEASE ELABORATE.
Kiwi is very good with having her ears and feet touched. We have no issues when we need to clean her ears.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE DOG'S PERSONALITY/TEMPERAMENT Kiwi is an outgoing, curious and confident girl. She makes us laugh every day as we watch her discover the world. She loves to be around her people and will follow you if you get up and go into a different room or cuddle with you on the couch (and give lots of kisses!!)

THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT SPECIFICS PLEASE
Kiwi is a wonderful dog, we just adore her! The only thing she needs to continue working on is her potty training.

Kiwi needs her ears cleaned regularly as is common with her breed mix.
She will also require daily grooming and regular groomer appts for clipping due to her coat style being perpetual growth

Kiwi needs to eat three times a day. We feed her at 8am, 12pm and 7pm.

POTTY HABITS: Kiwi is small and has a tiny bladder- we try to get her outside regularly but she does still have accidents. She needs to go out as soon as she wakes up from napping or sleeping, shortly after eating and after playing.

Kiwi is very young and will need someone who is home during the day to feed and let her outside.

STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON:
Kiwi is a smart girl, she was very quick to learn her name and come when called.

TRANSPORTATION-ANY MOTION SICKNESS OR ANXIETY IN VEHICLES?
Kiwi does not get motion sickness-- she has done great when taken to the pet store and vet.

Kiwi would do well in a home where someone can give her the attention and training a young puppy needs. She would thrive in a home with a suitable canine companion as a play pal and companion.

Kiwi is such a lovely and outgoing girl who will thrive in the right home.
