Kiva's Story
Meet Kiva 🤍

Kiva is a beautiful girl with a gentle, thoughtful spirit and a quiet eagerness to understand the world around her. She is 2 years old and 35lbs.

Earlier this year, she was surviving feral in rural Idaho while raising her four puppies. Now safe in a foster home, Kiva is learning at her own pace what it means to be protected, cared for, and given choices.

Kiva is still building trust with humans and will need a patient, compassionate adopter who understands that love doesn’t have to be rushed. She is not currently seeking pets or physical affection, but she is never reactive just very cautious. Her foster family is helping her learn that gentle touch can be safe and positive, though she may never be a traditionally cuddly dog. That said, she loves to share space and will happily lounge on the couch or bed with her person nearby.

What Kiva lacks in confidence, she more than makes up for in intelligence. She is extremely smart, fully potty trained, and thrives when given clear opportunities to succeed. She does wonderfully with other dogs initiating play, offering sweet kisses, and taking social cues from her canine companions. She is submissive, respectful, and has done exceptionally well even with small dogs. (She has not been cat tested and was perhaps a bit too interested in chickens.)

Kiva walks nicely on a leash, takes treats gently, and is learning kennel training. She settles well at bedtime and does best when kenneled near other dogs. She does experience anxiety when left alone, but having other dogs nearby has helped her tremendously.

Kiva will flourish in a calm, dog savvy home with at least one confident canine friend and a human willing to let trust grow naturally. Watching her discover safety and kindness is incredibly rewarding and whoever earns her trust will be truly special to her.

Submit an application at Hdrescueoregon.com. $400 adoption fee.
