Kitty's Story
Kitty's Quest: The Fetch for a Forever Family
Mission Briefing:
We are about to embark on a new epic adventure to unite one beautiful lass with her destined forever family. Our protagonist? Kitty!
Objective:
Help Kitty conquer her quest as she travels to new lands and kingdoms - from the mighty James River to the quaint Hidden Rock Park as she searches for the mythical realm of Endless Treats and Snuggles.
Will you accept the quest to help Kitty find her forever home? Press SHARE to spread her journey across the world of social media!
Kitty is a 75 pound, 4 year old bully mix who was picked up in the county as a stray at the end of August last year. She struggled to adjust to shelter life and was fostered for 2.5 months once her heartworm treatment was underway in December. Kitty’s decompression took a few weeks, but she settled into home life beautifully with slow introductions to family and close friends. She enjoyed snuggling in bed and long walks in the country. Kitty is housetrained, but we learned that she needs the security of a crate when left alone in the home. She was content sleeping in her crate at night, although she occasionally slept in the bed and liked to snuggle in between her people. She was left for up to 6 hours in the crate while in foster. Her prey drive for small critters includes cats, squirrels, and skinks – but she is easily redirected with a name call and a few tasty treats. It does, however, mean that she should be on leash when not in a fenced yard as she continues with her training. And she does love playing with toys and romping in a yard! Kitty’s challenge in finding the right home is that she is highly selective about both the people and dogs she wants to be social with. So when she came back from fostering in March, Kitty got a quiet kennel in the back corner of our Intake wing and we think she’s been as happy as a dog can be in a shelter. In addition to her daily walks on our nature trail and play time in the yard, we recently learned she loves car rides and experiencing new places. Our volunteers are now getting her out for little adventures that we’ll share here each week as part of Kitty’s continuing “quest” for the perfect person to love her as much as we do.
