KitKat's Story

Meet KitKat!

KitKat is an adorable little puppy that came to us when she was diagnosed with megaesophagus and was facing euthanasia or return to the Amish breeder (which would very likely end in her being killed). So we stepped up and took her.

We have had her for two months now and we have ruled out any other health conditions that she could have because of her megaE diagnosis. She was extremely underweight when we got her and now she is the perfect chunky weight!

She is so incredibly outgoing, learns quick as she already knows how to sit and wait until released at just 4 months old. She comes when she is called and truly is just such a smart girl.

Her condition requires her to be fed in an upright position for 20 to 30 minutes after she eats. Which is why you see her in a special made chair for her called a Bailey chair. This chair allows her to safely eat and limit her risk of regurgitation!

Due to her condition, she also cannot have water. She gets all of her hydration from! We blend up her week worth of food on Sunday and then rehydrated with the appropriate amount of water (1 cup water and 1 cup blended kibble - equal parts) at her twice daily feedings.

Her condition is considered mild, thankfully. She does still regurgitate here and there but if you don’t see her do it you likely will never know because she “cleans it up” immediately. This is unfortunately normal for megaE dogs.

She is available for Foster to adopt only. We want to make sure that she can thrive in any home and that you do not feel overwhelmed during the learning process of how to feed her appropriately.

I know this seems like a lot but once you get into a groove, it is truly no big deal.
