Kirkland survived a gunshot wound that left shrapnel throughout his body, damaging his trachea and larynx. He can’t fully bark, and when he pants, his breathing is heavy. He recently underwent a laryngeal tie-back surgery to help him breathe more comfortably.<br/><br/>Because of this, Kirkland needs a lifestyle that keeps him cool and relaxed. He should avoid heat and overexertion, and he will do best with a slow feeder at mealtimes.<br/><br/>Despite everything he’s been through, Kirkland is full of love and joy. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter.
