King's Story

Hi, my name is King. I'm a terrier mix male born on January 20th, 2023. I'll only be adopted to a home in Hanover County, Richmond-metro Area, or counties adjacent to Hanover.

PLEASE READ MY FULL PROFILE BEFORE YOU INQUIRE ABOUT ME!!
I was an owner surrender, and wasn't in the best shape when I came to Hanover Humane. Aside from the fact that I look like a love child between Chewbacca and an Ewok... my friends here think that its likely that I spent much of my time in a crate and didn't get much activity. I was very skinny and my leg muscles were not well developed. I had to be carefully lowered to the floor and not allowed to jump down at first because I didn't have much muscle strength in my legs - but I've got great muscle tone and good weight on me now and I look like I'm supposed to look. At 9 pounds, I'm just a little guy, but don't let that fool you. My big personality is...how do you say...kind of on the SPICY side. Once I get to know you I'm your best bud for life and will go anywhere you go and worship you. BUT... before I get to that point with you, you need to be aware that I will guard my toys, treats, and food from you or anyone else I don't know well, and I can be snippy getting my harness and collars on and off until I know you and I trust you. I had never had a leash and collar on before, so that's all new to me and I'm learning, and my friends at Hanover Humane say I'm getting much better. I walk well on leash and I love to ride in the car. I've gotten along well overall with the dogs I've met so far, as long as they stay away from my food, special toys, and treats...otherwise, they'll get some serious stink-eye and view of my pearly-whites. I will NOT be adopted to a home with small children. Just a word of warning - I dislike going to the vet, and I usually have to be muzzled for my doctors visits. A patient, understanding, terrier-savvy owner willing to give me time to acclimate will in turn get a wonderful, attentive, loyal companion that will follow you to the ends of the earth. I'm already that way with some of the staff here that have been caring for me and socializing me for the past few months.

I'm neutered, up to date on Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccines. I've tested negative for heartworms and I'm on heartworm preventative, and I am microchipped.

If you want to meet me, email info@hanoverhumanesociety.org and request an application. After we review it, if your home is a good fit for me, you'll be contacted to schedule an appointment to visit with me.
