Kimo's Story
Meet Kimo – The Nervous Chihuahua with a Heart of Gold! ?
1-year-old | 10 lbs | Chihuahua Mix

If you’ve got a soft spot for underdogs and a patient heart, then Kimo might just be your perfect match.

Kimo is a one-year-old chihuahua mix who came all the way from Texas and is slowly learning how to “dog” in his Wisconsin foster home. He may only weigh 10 pounds, but this little guy carries a big bundle of nerves, and an even bigger heart.

Kimo is naturally timid and uncertain around new people and environments. Sudden noises, busy daytime sounds, and unfamiliar faces send him into hide-and-watch mode. He prefers the quiet of the evening and finds comfort in routine and predictability. But once he feels safe? The transformation is pure magic.

In the comfort of his foster home, Kimo is showing more and more of his playful, curious side. He loves to romp with the resident dogs, chase stuffies (and absolutely destroy them), shred some paper (typical puppy mischief!), and curl up for snuggly naps under a pile of blankets. He’s not clingy, just quietly loyal and happy to be near his dog and human buddies. He’s also house-trained, kennel-trained (though not exactly thrilled about going in), and knows a few commands like “stay” and “settle.”

Kimo truly looks to other dogs for confidence. A calm, friendly, and well-adjusted canine companion is an absolute must in his future home. He needs a buddy who can show him the ropes—not another nervous pup, as that can amplify his anxiety. He’s also great with cats and isn’t food or toy possessive. In fact, he’s a total gentleman when it comes to sharing.

He’s still unsure about leashes and walks, so a secure, fenced-in yard is essential as he builds confidence at his own pace. Car rides make him nervous, but he handles them well. And despite his “resting worried face” (those furrowed brows are permanent!), he has never shown aggression, he chooses flight over fight every time.

Kimo is truly a diamond in the rough. With a patient, loving family and a stable dog sibling to lead the way, he will continue to blossom. He may never be the life of the party, but he will be the most devoted snuggle buddy you could ever ask for.

If you’re ready to offer time, understanding, and a whole lot of love, Kimo is ready to give you his heart.
