Kevin's Story
Say hello to Kevin! Kevin is a sweet and snuggly 5-year-old, 18 lb., Miniature Poodle with a heart as big as his personality looking for his new forever home.
Kevin was found as a stray with a severe eye injury. A compassionate Samaritan found Kevin and brought him into the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter and, thanks to their excellent care team, Kevin underwent eye enucleation surgery. He is now a healthy (and adorable!) one-eyed pup. Kevin quickly became the beloved “clinic dog” at the shelter, comforting other animals, “assisting” staff with their work, and making everyone around him smile.
Kevin is incredibly friendly and social. He gets along with everyone he meets: people, dogs, and even cats. He's a true “love at first sight” kind of guy who thrives on companionship and being close to his people. Kevin’s ideal home is with someone who is retired, works from home, or doesn’t travel often, as he is working through some separation anxiety and does not do well being left alone or kenneled. He’s currently on medications to help manage anxiety and is working with a veterinarian to find the best long-term plan.
Kevin also has a mild collapsing trachea, which sounds scarier than it is. With proper care, which includes using a harness (no collars), keeping him lean, and avoiding excessive heat, Kevin is doing well and should continue to thrive with a caring and informed adopter.
He’s still adjusting to life with one eye, so he’ll need a little patience and understanding as he gains confidence. If you're looking for a constant companion to share your days, Kevin will happily be your little shadow. He’s ready to be someone’s whole world. Could that someone be you?
