Meet Kennedy

2 year, 21lbs, Beagle, Neutered male

Please read everything below and submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org if this pup seems like a good fit for your family :)

We cannot guarantee breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses, though!

Home Recommendation: Kennedy can live in the city or out of the city. He's doing really well in the city: currently being fostered in the Upper West Side. He wouldn't say no to a home in the burbs. Kennedy is a great dog for a person who is ready to commit to dog ownership. This breed is probably one of our favorites. They are consistently good candidates for training and fun. They also tend to be snuggle bugs. Kennedy would do best in a home with another dog that he can play with and burn his energy off with.

Level of Dog Ownership Experience Needed: KENNEDY is an intermediate level pup. This means that ideally the adopter has primary dog ownership of a breed or energy level similar to this pup. At a minimum the adopter should have solid experience doing things like dog sitting, or fostering dogs of a similar breed. This means that if you only have experience with a senior shih tzu (for example) then this dog is not a great fit for you. Kennedy needs an owner who will be dedicated to continuing his training and keeping up with his need for solid exercise and mental stimulation.

His Foster Parents Say: Kennedy is an adorably rambunctious sweetheart. He lives his life as a detective, sniffing every corner of the world and stopping any time he hears a loud noise on the city streets not because he's scared, but to see what's going on and make sure it's okay. Once something has his stamp of approval, he moves on to the next thing. He is the most kind dog I've met, without a bad bone in his body. Even when doing something he hates (wiping off his paws after a muddy walk, cleaning his ears, etc.) he cries a bit but he has zero resource guarding or reactivity. His only fears in the world seem to the vacuum cleaner and going into bigger stores. He is still exploring his world and loves chewing at home (sneakers, furniture, books, etc. We're working hard at giving an immediate no and replacing with a toy, and he's getting better at taking the toy and dropping the initial shoe, etc. He absolutely *loves* being outside in the park and is the cutest wiggly, tail wagging boy whenever we're walking through the grass. He's very high energy and plays like a pup, so he needs a few long walks (we usually do 2 hours in the morning and an hour in the afternoon plus two more potty breaks). He's a fast learner (learns commands after just a few tries) and knows a lot, but has his stubborn side, which we're working on. Knows sit, down, stay, come, and currently learning off and paw. Would be great with a family/a household with a number of people, as he's high energy and loves to play/go on walks whenever he's awake. Would also probably love another dog sibling! He's an absolute sweetheart, learning the ways of the world and enjoying every minute of it. Everyone on the street stops, gives him an awww and thinks he's a 6-month-old puppy.

Energy Level: High: needs to start his day with a 90 minute walk at a minimum. Beagles are tiny hounds afterall.

Personality: Social Butterfly. Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly.

Cuddle Factor: High. Loves to snuggle on the couch with his foster parents, always looking for pets

House Training Skills: He's potty trained. Had a few transitional accidents while getting used to his new home and schedule: but this is common for all dogs

Social Skills with Kids: Would be okay for a home with respectful kids. Okay for a home with kids 12 and up

Social Skills with Other Dogs: Great with other dogs. Would be fine in a home with another dog with similar energy.

Social Skills with Cats: Hasn't been cat trained. We are able to cat train for approved adopters. Beagles are usually good with cats in our experience.

Mouthy Play: Respectful with body parts: never mouthy on humans. Might try to chew on furniture but doesn't damage it. Is very good at being redirected to a toy: stops him straight away.

Leash Manners: Getting the hang of it. Adopter will need to do continued leash training. This is very common for the beagle/hound mixes as they are ruled by their nose.

Jumping Manners: Medium. Does it when he's over excited but responds to correction pretty quickly.

Medical Status: Up to date on vaccines. Neutered and micro chipped. Treated with dewormer upon intake. Heartworm negative.

How Did They End Up With Social Tees: He was left at a high volume shelter in TN. Our rescue partner had them vetted and transported to NYC. While in Social Tees care they are kept in attentive and loving foster homes. Many dogs are rescued from TN due to the lack of Spay and Neuter and a much smaller population of humans seeking dogs. In NYC we have a large human population which in turn means they find forever homes :)

PLEASE NOTE: This animal is not at the Social Tees office all of our dogs and cats are in foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. :) If you'd like to apply to adopt this pet, please complete an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Because we are a small team and receive hundreds of applications each week, we are unable to respond to every application and every inquiry email, but we do our best. Please have patience! If your application is approved, you will for sure hear from us. If you have questions, please take a look at the Adoption and Fostering FAQs etc. on our website as all common questions are answered there. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to save these innocent lives!!
