Kenji's Story

Low Drama, High Loyalty

Kenji is a 7-year-old, ~50 lb Shepherd mix with the kind of loyalty that feels a little bit like being chosen by a very serious, very fluffy bodyguard.

He’s not the “life of the party” guy. He’s the one sitting back, observing, quietly deciding who’s worth his time. But once you make the list? That’s it. You’re his person. Your business is now his business. Your couch is his couch. Your general whereabouts? Monitored closely for safety purposes.

Now that Kenji has gotten his first real shot at home life with his foster, it’s clear he’s been holding out on everyone. With a little stability and patience, he’s blossomed into this calm, affectionate, quietly hilarious companion who just wants to be near his person and mind his own peaceful little life.

He’s what we’d call a “Velcro dog,” but in a respectful way. Not clingy—just… spiritually aligned with wherever you are at all times. Cooking? He’s supervising. Watching TV? He’s off-duty but still present. Existing? He’s nearby, making sure everything runs smoothly.

Kenji thrives in a calm, low-traffic home where things make sense and nobody’s doing too much. He prefers a proper introduction over a surprise pop-in. He may take a little extra time getting comfortable with men. Once he does, he’s all in—loyal, sweet, and very much invested in the relationship.

Other dogs? He’s got standards. He prefers calm, polite female dogs who understand personal boundaries and don’t come in hot like it’s a WWE match. Cats? No issues there. Drama? Not his brand.

On leash, he’s a gentleman. In the yard, he’ll absolutely remind you he has a playful side—especially if a ball is involved. It’s a very “don’t let the calm demeanor fool you” situation.

Life with Kenji looks like this:

A quiet morning, coffee in hand, and Kenji posted up nearby like your soft, slightly judgmental roommate who actually loves you very much. Evenings are low-key—maybe a walk, maybe a little ball time, then both of you winding down like you’ve got nowhere else to be.

Kenji isn’t looking for chaos. He’s looking for his person. Someone calm, steady, and kind who understands that the best relationships aren’t rushed—they’re built.

Give him that, and you’ll understand why people talk about a “once-in-a-lifetime dog.”

+++++++

ADOPTION APPLICATION:
https://www.stmuttsrescue.com/adoption-application

+++++++

Kenji is currently in foster care in St. Catharines, Ontario and will be transported to his approved adoptive family.

+++++++

The Truth About Rescue:

Every rescue pup is a work in progress — and that’s the beauty of it. None of them come wrapped in a bow, ready-made or mistake-free. They come with stories, quirks, and hearts that have seen a lot but still choose to trust again.

Adoption isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. Showing up for them, every day, until they know they’re finally home. That’s when you’ll see them bloom — soft and steady — into the very best version of themselves. And somewhere along the way, you’ll realize they were never the only one being rescued.

+++++++

Once we receive your application, our team will review it and reach out to set up an interview with one of our volunteers.
If you have any questions, please email SaintMuttsInquiries@gmail.com

Note: As with all of our rescues, we recommend homes with children 10 years and over to ensure the best fit for both pets and families.

Check out all of our adoptable pups and learn more about our rescue on our website:

www.stmuttsrescue.com
