***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico***<br/><br/>Hi, I'm Jack — though I was once called Ken - from the Barbie Litter! <br/>My story began in a broken-down shack on the coast of Mexico, where I was born to a brave, feral mama. The ground was littered with nails and broken glass — and food was scarce. Life was tough, and sadly, not all of my siblings made it. But then a kind woman spotted us and called Surfers for Strays, and everything began to change. <br/><br/>Volunteers came to visit us at the shack every single day — bringing food, clean water, medicine, and so much love. They built us a safe pen, cared for our mama, and made sure we knew what kindness felt like. I couldn't help but love them back. <br/><br/>Once there was space at the shelter, I moved in and got to live with the volunteers themselves. That's when life truly began to blossom. I made new four-legged friends , learned basic training, and discovered how good it feels to be safe, clean, and surrounded by love. Eventually, I was adopted and flew to the U.S. — full of hope for my forever home.<br/><br/>But sometimes forever turns out to be temporary. I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, and my adoptive family couldn't commit to managing it. So, I made the journey back to Mexico. <br/><br/>Surfers for Strays never gave up on me. They drove me 16 hours to Toluca for a promising stem cell treatment — and it worked for almost a year! I was thriving, pain-free, and feeling like my best self. But in summer 2025, the pain came back and after reviewing the x-rays the team decided to move forward with a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) — a surgery that promises me a pain-free life, aside from the usual risk of arthritis in old age. Since then, I've been back to doing everything I love. Gladly reach out to Surfers for Strays for more info, as I am not a dogtor. <br/><br/>These days, I live at the volunteer house, and let me tell you — it's the good life. I sleep in bed with the humans (cuddles are non-negotiable), go on long daily walks, and spend my days surrounded by my doggo friends. I've earned the nickname “Sweet Uncle Jack” because I love playing with all the pups. I'm patient, kind, and know how to set soft, healthy boundaries.<br/><br/>I'm incredibly affectionate with people — I don't jump up, but if you kneel down, I'll nuzzle right in for pets and kisses. I need to be touching you when I sleep or while you're working — even in the Mexican heat, cuddling is my #1 priority. <br/><br/>I'm also crate-trained, housebroken, and polite around food. I know my commands (Sit, Down, Paw, Turn, Stay), and while I'm not super food-driven, I do love working with you to learn and please. One of my favorite pastimes is sniffing — walks with sniff breaks or a snuffle mat at home would make my day! My energy is just right — I enjoy my walks and playtime, but I'm also perfectly content to lounge by your side. I'd love a home with another friendly dog, but I'd also be happy with regular playdates and plenty of cuddle time with my humans.<br/><br/>I'm just a really, really good boy. I've been through a lot, but I hold no grudges. I choose joy, every day. My heart is full — it just needs a place to land.
