KELLY's Story

LOVE GERMAN SHEPHERDS? LIVE IN A QUIET RURAL NEIGHBOURHOOD?

This lively, young German Shepherd is full of energy and always up for a game of tug-of-war or a vigorous round of fetch. With her adventurous spirit, Kelly is an ideal companion for an active family who loves the great outdoors.

Though she may initially appear intimidating with her confident bark when meeting new people, Kelly’s tough exterior quickly softens once she gets to know you. Her pointy ears and expressive face are impossible to resist, and after some playtime, she’s more than happy to settle in for belly rubs and cuddle time with her favorite humans.

Kelly is highly intelligent and has already mastered several basic commands, motivated by treats and positive reinforcement. She has completed a board-and-train course and even attends a supervised professional daycare to continue working on her socialization skills. While she’s made significant progress, she does struggle with leash reactivity, especially when encountering other dogs or strangers during walks. Kelly would thrive with a family experienced with leash-reactive breeds, ideally in a rural area where she can enjoy peaceful walks without the added stress of heavy dog traffic.

Though Kelly is affectionate and eager to bond with her new family, she does have some emotional baggage. Her past experiences have left her with some separation anxiety. At present, she can manage a few hours alone, but with patience and consistency, she will learn to feel secure and confident in her new home. Kelly also tends to be overly excited when meeting new visitors, but with a high-value treat, she quickly calms down and is ready for attention and affection.

Kelly is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and ready to find her forever home. At 2 years old and weighing around 66 lbs, she is house-trained and crate-trained. Kelly would do best as the only pet in the household, though with slow introductions, she may adapt to living with another easy-going medium to large breed dog. We recommend a home with older children (16+). A secure, 6-foot fence is required, and if there’s a pool, it must be separately fenced for safety.

If you’re seeking an intelligent, loving, and adventurous companion who will be loyal and affectionate, Kelly could be the perfect fit for you. Apply now to make her a part of your family!

Fill out an application for Kelly at: https://gerdysrescue.org/gerdys-adoption-form/

Please note we only adopt to Montreal and nearby surrounding areas.
