They DON’T understand, but YOU MUST. There will be absolutely NO exceptions to this. Please don’t apply if you can’t commit to the time and patience or have previous puppy experience.

Hello friends! We’d like you to meet Keller, an amazing 3.5 month old Cavapoo mix. So cute, right? We are totally smitten with this little active fluffy whirlwind of a puppy! He’s a happy and healthy little boy that weighs… are you ready? 6.9 lbs!!!! With that being said, we think his adult weight could be 18-30 lbs, but please note this is not a guarantee of weight, because he’s not telling us who his parents are!

He is a very smart little boy, he’s learning new things everyday, he knows how to navigate puppy stairs to get on the sofa and out to the yard for play and work on potty training. He is a busy happy guy. He lovvvvees teething toys, soft toys, and when left unattended um…..just about anything! ! (typical puppy, right?)

We have learned that Keller is deaf, but don’t let that scare you, as he is very smart. He loves to play with the other pups in his foster home as well as plays on his own. He requires another dog in his home to play with in his furever home, a young or younger adult dog he can wrestling with, chase around, most likely tackle, and all around buddy he can learn from. He will need a home that has the time to dedicate to him as any puppy should, and of course like any puppy, he likes to chew on things. He picks up anything and everything that is in front of him, so he will need age appropriate puppy chew toys and a quick human to take rocks, twigs and anything he wants to put in his mouth while outside. After playtime, he will settle down in a puppy bed or on your lap to chill. ( not for long though!) Please remember, puppies require ALOT of time, patience and consistency, especially in potty training as his tiny bladder cannot hold it for several hours. Also, don’t forget, you’ll need to puppy proof your home for his safety. He requires a home with very watchful eyes to make sure he doesn’t get into things he is not supposed to. He will also need time and patience to learn about his surroundings in his new home due to his hearing issue, but once he knows the lay of the land, watch out cuz’ here he comes! Lol… He does requires a single family home, no condos or apartments, as he loves to “ talk”, yup, he’s quite the barker! He’d best be suited for a work from home family, or one who only works away from the home for just a few hours a day as they will be given preference. A secure fenced yard attached to your home is REQUIRED.

Keller has been neutered, is current on his age appropriate vaccines, microchipped and started on his heartworm and flea prevention. Please note, he will require regular grooming which can run anywhere from $60.00-$120.00 per visit, so keep that in mind with your budget too!

Sound like the guy for you? If so, please visit www.viprescue.org to fill out an adoption application. Keller can’t wait to meet his new family!

Adoption Requirements: You must be a Florida resident, and be at least 25 years of age to adopt. To qualify for adoption, all of the pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, be current on all vaccines, preventatives, and have received consistent veterinary care. If you’ve had more than one Vet in the past 3 years, please provide all the names and number for each vet. This breed typically lives 15-18 years, so please keep that lifespan in mind, as your age should be appropriate for the pets estimated lifespan.

All of us at VIP Rescue are Volunteers, with families, jobs and pets of our own, so please be kind and patient. We select the most fitting application for the dog, not necessarily the timeliest adoption application. Please make sure to read the entire bio of the pet you’re interested in before applying to adopt to make sure you meet the pets needs. Thank you for thinking rescue.

Having a Deaf dog,

This is one article we googled.
https://www.smalldoorvet.com/learning-center/medical/deaf-dogs

The highlights are:
-You’ll have to be your dog’s ears. You should never let your deaf dog off-leash in an area that’s unsecured. Enclosed dog parks and dog runs are great tools for socializing deaf dogs in a safe space.
-They may not understand certain concepts and dangers that hearing dogs do. For example, your deaf dog can’t hear cars or honking, so aren’t able to use these scary sounds to act accordingly.
-Deaf dogs can get startled easily. Wake them up gently and give warning signs before sneaking up on them. Tap your foot to get their attention and use their other senses to your advantage. There is a myth that deaf dogs may be more aggressive as they can be scared more easily, but this isn’t true.
-They do bark! There is a common misconception that deaf dogs don’t bark, but they can bark just as much as hearing dogs. They may also bark in various situations where a hearing dog would not bark.
-Each dog is unique, deaf or hearing. Deaf dogs aren’t more expensive to care for than hearing dogs, and the costs and care will be specific to your own dog.

PLEASE do your research and understand the potential needs of this boy, before you apply.
VIPRescue.org
